my PSA level was .55 a year ago and now it is 6.0. Has anyone ever had this experience and if so does it go back down again or am i headed for prostate cancer? I will not be able to talk to my doctor until MONDAY and am finding it hard
to cope.

yep , i can only speak for myself . my story is three years ago aged 49 i had a UtI and ended up in hospital . I was discharged from hospital and thats when my problems really started . intense pain around my abdomen and pelvis , trouble urinating etc . I was referred to a urologist who said my prostate felt hard and my psa was raised at 6.
i had an MrI scan which showed something suspicious in my prostate . I then had a prostate biopsy and the result was " moderate chronic prostatitas " i was put on 6 weeks of Cypro and the pain went down and my psa also went down to 2 .
i have subsequently had another two bouts of prostatitis three years later and various tests and have been diagnosed with a severe bladder blockage which may be causing the prostatatitis which by the way no longer responds to Anti biotics .

I had prostatitus when all my problems started. Pretty stubborn to get rid of... but I'm convinced it was the urinary retention that I was living with, that resulted in the infection. My feeling was gone in my bladder which signals it was getting full. I didn't know post-peeing session that I was retaining probably over 350ml. I don't know for how long.. a couple of years. My GP didn't catch on and neither did I until he did the urine sample and the DRE. By that time it had been a problem for quite a while. The nerves disfunction as my bladder stretched was an unexpected feature of this disfunction to me and had a lot to do with my ending up with horrible overflow incontinence. My GP let me go like this for about a month telling me that the antibiotics he was giving me would help shrink the prostate. Well, it didn't. Shortly after I began doing CIC while waiting for a Urologist appointment and it has solved all the symptomatic problems so far. I think an empty bladder is one of the best things we can do to avoid a UTI.
