Higher blood pressure

Hey all. My question is this. So when I was getting tested to see what was wrong with me, prior to them finding out it was mono, the one thing not totally normal that they did find was that my top number for blood pressure read high. It’s varied, but been from a normal range all the way to 150, and my bottom number has always been normal range. I think some of it may be anxiety related, since I was so stressed not knowing what was wrong with me, and now I seem to have developed this anxiety specifically related to having my blood pressure measured. I feel myself tense up and get anxious when that cuff tightens. I’d say I average high 130s to low 140s on the first reading. I’m wondering if anyone has experienced their blood pressure being elevated due to this illness. I seem to remember reading at least a few people who had lower blood pressure from it. Appreciate the responses

That’s nice to hear you shared the experience. The naturopath I had been seeing didn’t seem overly concerned with it even before I was diagnosed with mono, he said when only the top number is elevated like that it can sometimes indicate your body is fighting something. Based on all my other lifestyle factors, that I don’t drink or smoke, eat pretty well and exercise a bunch, I thought it unlikely I need to worry. But those allopathic doctors can put you in boxes, and be like, high blood pressure, no that can’t be from mono, you should take a low dose beta blocker. I’m not trying to get in medication like that. I’m not going to bother checking it again until I have several months distance between me and this virus.

      Thanks again for the reply

    Hey Nick,

The virus is such a stressful thing to go through that it would make sense that blood pressure could be elevated because of it, remember it affects so much of the population and it's very controllable high blood pressure and as Mono says very much could be something that physically goes back to normal when the worst effects and stress of the virus are gone. I had borderline high blood pressure at one stage too but since then it has returned to normal, so these things can go up and down with life's stresses and pressures.

It's understandable to be so tensed up worrying about these things, it's so hard I know Nick but remember you will get through it - taking good vitamins and supplements, eating healthy, drinking plenty of water, etc, managing even short walks if you can when feeling up to it, all these things will definitely help with blood pressure - hang in there and don't worry about a thing (says someone himself who is a terrible worrier - easy to say and much harder to do) - I believe with God's help you're going to get there and be back to FULL health Nick, with both the virus and your blood pressure. Trusting Jesus will our healing today. Thinking of you man.

    Craig
