Hilarious now but not funny then..

Picture this. Day 2 and morphine and epidural have worn off so pain is intense. Ward cleaner pops his head round the corner and asks if he can clean the room. The nurse comes in with a litre of water with ice. Lovely. Ward cleaner then wraps vacuum cord round table and pulls hard when he realises it is stuck. In slow motion the water jug flies into the air and lands in my lap. Waterproof mattress so I am left in a pool of iced water. He then runs away...probably scared by the torrent of language that seemed to be coming from me...

Funny now but not at the time.

Now 8 weeks post op. Been back at work full time for 3 weeks. Going for hip 2 in next month.

Keep going all you new hippies. It is worth it but there will always be some days when you wonder why you did it. It gets better every day

Take care

I can almost promise you post op is nothing compared to pre op pain... yes a bit of discomfort. ... but nothing like hip pain.

First week will be horrible but it is only one week and then every day gets better. You will have good days and not so good days but don't push yourself and listen to your body. Eventually you will be leaping round like a gazelle. ..

Going upstairs horizontal is nothing. I had to crawl upstairs with an electricians face 6 inches from my behind! Like you I have put on much weight. The poor man tried to make me feel better by saying "nice view". All I could think of saying, and I cringe when I think about it was, "I'm sorry it's my hips, I can't open my legs either!!!! OMG!!!

Floundering trying to get out of the passenger side of our car on the same day, I booted a guy in the knee.

Oh I could go on. The indignity of it!

Hilarious. I asked the physio who was male and about 12 when it would be ok to resume our love life. He said 3 months dependent on where i put my legs. I went very red!!

Lol! That's very funny! My first X-ray was done by a 12 year old who had borrowed his dads NHS uniform. After hauling me onto the table. (I distinctly heard the word 'winch' mentioned,) I'm sure. He told me that crutches would make me look like I was supposed to have my bottom sticking out. Cheeky little ******!

Love the image...you have recovered quickly and hip 2 so soon...any tips on exercises? Got my 1st physio today, hoping it's relatively pain free!

No real tips except make sure you do the exercises. Also lots of rest and lying flat for 2 hours every afternoon so the blood can flow more freely and help with the swelling.

      Hope it goes ok today

      Hi renee

Yes really went back 3 weeks ago but took it very carefully. 8 weeks today and no pain and no crutches apart from if my other hip needs it. Working happily in my mobility shop...

Sleeping in all positions now which is a relief. Consultant said no pillow required and I can sleep on my front. Only one thing causing concern which is how soon my hubby and I can make love again but didnt feel I could ask the consultant as was a bit embarrassed.!!

Hope day 18 is a good one.

      Take care
