Lynne, you should get a lot of response to your topic.  I fortunately have not had your bad luck.

Hi Lynne, what do they do in a revision ? I have had 2 joint replacements and because of psoriatic arthritis ,all my joints are bad. I too live with constant pain . I am facing yet another replacement. One thing I can say that helped was water therapy. I went to a physical therapy place that had a small pool heated to 92 degrees . They have you do excercises in the water which is so amazing. I went two to three times a week for four weeks . I felt the best I ever felt for a couple months then the pain came back. I'm seeing the doctor to get a script for two weeks and the place with the water therapy said then I could pay like $30.00 a month a go monthly and use the the pool as I like to do my excercises. I'm thinking I might have to do this the rest of my life if I want to be out of pain. Does your revision mean the implant is not right ? Please explain what they have to do in surgery to correct your problem. My right hip still isn't great, I have a large dent where my scar is. Mars MRI results said I have atrophied muscle and tissue and there is nothing they can do . I'm so upset about this. Please let me know how you make out with your revision. Take care, Pam

I just had my revision 3/14, after over a year of not being able to walk without pain. My LTHR was 7/2012, no issues post-op, my RTHR was 7/3/2017, debrided 8/5/2017, with diagnosis of infected hardware finally made 12/2017- removal of hardware 1/3/2018, 6 weeks IV antibiotics along with an antibiotic spacer, 50% weightbearing x 10 weeks- revision last Wednesday!! Now the ongoing restrictions-50% weightbearing, ice, ice, ice...4-6 weeks restrictions as above, leg length difference with shoe lift 3 months out. Chin up, it’s not cancer. We WILL walk again without pain!! 😜😘

I had to have revision 10 weeks after getting my new hip due to surgical errors.

Sadly the recovery is just the same, so 6 weeks on your back, compression stockings, exercises, drugs ......... sad

What errors did they make ? That's my biggest nightmare! They are supposed to be well educated and experienced  in their field . So disappointing.  So many patients have had a multitude of problems after surgery, scary.

Errors in the original THR. The ceramic 'socket' was put in crooked, so does not sit in the titanium taper properly, then it wasn't picked up on the X-Ray taken the next day.

Only discovered 4 weeks later, so revision planned for 10 weeks later.

Surgeon unable to move the ceramic which was by now jammed tight in the titanium. He denied all responsibility for getting it wrong.

Now under expert care at RNOH Stanmore where they can do any work that may need to be done in future.

      Legal case pending .........

It is rare to get this level of poor care, I was just unlucky.

I should add that I have had a good outcome despite what they did to me, rather than because of it. cool
