Hip and back pain 2 years after THR

Posted , 5 users are following.

After the initial recovery from thr I did good l had what I thought was a painful muscle in the back of my leg. I was told by the surgeon I needed to stretch the muscle more with exercise.

In May 2015 I returned to check again and was told it was normal. By Oct. I was in sever pain and it felt like it was coming out of place.

This month new Dr and here is the results.

Well my right leg is so much longer than left it has caused scoliosis of my back.i now have two disks degenerated one bludgeing and a pinched nerve. They put me in a back brace and I am going to have to have shoes on left side lifted up.

I have had and MRI done they are going to do a cat scan and more X-rays.

The Dr said my hip surgery is what messed up my back.

Anyone else have this much trouble from their surgery?

Wow Martha so sorry to hear about all your struggles and pain. My back hurts from time to time but I had issues before my surgery. I was almost 2 inches short. I'd been short since childhood but as I got older my leg got shorter due to the deformed hip. Which caused me to lean. My back now is so so. I'm 6 mons out now. I had first hip surgery in July 3 weeks later I find its dislocated 2 days later I'm having a total hip revision!! Weather plays a role to a lot of the stiffness I get both in back and hip joint. Still have a long way to go to heal. It's been a slow recovery. Going 6 weeks non weight bearing really put me back in my recovery. I hope you find relief and help in getting this all sorted out and on the road to recovery. Hugs 🤗 LD

I had my surgery done in Tn and it was 2 years ago. The Dr I am seeing now said this problem took this long to show up. There isn't an easy fix that dr ruined my back.

    dear martha,

I am so sorry to hear this and wish I had the right words to comfort you -

It seems unbelievvabky negligent to just say : well, hip surgery messed up your back, and leave it like that ...

can you maybe get a 3rd or 4th opinion ?

sending you prayers and may the righ people will come into your life ...

    big warm hug

Third opinion all said the hip joint is good but the femer part is one and a quarter too long. Which over time has caused the spine to curve.

Well here we are almost a month and three Dr's later and no help.

I was sent to the Campbell Clinic in Tn by the back Dr because he said he didn't want to do anything about my back till someone addressed the problem with my hip as the length of the replacement was what in his opinion caused all the issues.

At the Clinic I had yet two more X-rays done Dr stated the joint looked good. Duh so said the last three Dr's! Still doesn't explain why the muscle freezes up and knots up so I can not bend the leg.

He did blood work and said that he wanted to get all the paper work from my original thr. Said that they would call when the blood tests came back.

Sounds like another pass it along Dr to me. Meanwhile I am in extreme pain and no help. Not a good place to be.

Hello Martha, Poor you. I know how you feel . I had my hip replaced two years ago, but mine has gone wrong as I wasnt given the time to recover as I am my Husbands carer. He did have a care package, but I was up and around over doing things too soon. So now I am in pain a lot of the time. I am a tense person anyway. My Hubby is also severely sighted & deaf.and also has OA of hips & knees. The consultant did warn me that hip operations work for some but not for everyone. Are you from the uk? I had mine done on the NHS ,but in the Nuffield Hospital in woking. Anyway all I can say is take it easy and get as much rest as you can . I am into natural things, eg Reflexology and when we can I love to have a spa . As I find this helps to relax me. . Regards Amandah

I am in the USA. Initially after my surgery I was doing great seems like I had hit a plateau one year after and then it seem to get worse with the muscle always being sore. It went from there
