Hip Dislocation after surgery

I had hip surgery and was doing pretty well with recovery, then I dislocated the same hip. Recovery seems so much slower. Has anyone else dislocate after surgery? Wondering how long recovery might be.

About ten days post op I was stretching out to move a small bottle of water from my right to my left and heard and felt a solid crunch. X rays showed the hip was fine but the doctor in A and E said that it was just the hip joint settling......really! My take is that it was a partial dislocation and my surgeon thought the same.
I was told to not weight bear on it for five weeks because he thought that he could see a small crack in my pelvis.
Cheers Richard

My surgery was on May 11th. Allowed to start weight bearing on June 19th so basically my muscles were going backwards as I lay on my bed resting due to a suspected cracked pelvis for five or so weeks... very frustrating!

I have three fears, the needle in the back, I am a belly sleeper and hip dislocation. Your story has really put the wind up me.
I am starting to think just how long I have to cotton wool myself before venturing out without a conscious thought of what to avoid.
I am starting to experience information overload.
I trust all is going well.
regards
John

Do not be too concerned but what I experienced really surprised me as the move I made really was not extreme.
I was sitting in a swivel office chair so I was really just leaning forward slightly and picking up a small plastic bottle of water on my right, rotating to the left and putting it down in front of me. The jar I felt from my hip caused me to drop the bottle!

Afternoon Lucky17! Welcome to the family of hipsters! Sadly yes....I dislocated my first rhr back on July 18. 3 weeks 2 days later I'm having a total hip revision! Dr put me on strict orders of non weight bearing, no hip exercises or hip flexion past 80 degrees for 6 weeks 😖 I'm now 11 months out and still struggling with stiffness and discomfort. Also having nerve pain and sensitivity in my thigh which has been going on for 6 months now. Everything that touches my thigh bothers me. I've had Injections into the nerve, cutaneous nerve, with little relief. Have to take lyrica which helps but not completely. I'm having to wear shorty shorts so it doesn't touch certain areas of my thigh. And a lady my age!! I am no longer having bone on bone pain, but this nerve pain has hindered my recovery, it's possible scar tissue pressing on the nerve. Been massaging it, using TENS machine and applying a lidocaine patch 5%. In still limping without my cane. How are you feeling?? How did you dislocate your hip? How far along where you? I to this day am not sure when or how mine happened. But I can tell you I really didn't know it was dislocated!! Was walking with aide of walker and doing home pt. When I went to dr for 3 weeks checkup was when they discovered it. I do recall my hip being higher than the other and when I laid down my foot was touching ankle of other foot. I should of gone in sooner but I didn't. Dr was going to do what is called a "closed reduction ", meaning pop it back in, but couldn't and when he went in he discovered cup was loose, the ball of hip was caught on back of cup and stem was loose too so he had to do revision. 😭 I can say it's been a very long slow hard recovery. Being 6 weeks non weight bearing made it even worse. But I'm getting there but at a snails 🐌 pace!! God's blessings to you for a speedy recovery and healing. Hugs 🤗 LD

Dear Linda
It feels like a total waste of life being stuck and non weight bearing for that amount of time doesn't it. It was such a relief to get the all clear and to start walking!
You talk about a lady of my age but you look young in the photo of you! Hope your recovery is going well now.
All the best
Richard

Thank you Linda,
I was in the car when I twisted to reach for our little dig. My foot got caught and then extreme pain! It was worse than the initial fall! I'm still afraid it could happen again.
Do you like the TENS machine? I always wondered if they actually help.

Yes I do like the TENS machine. They used it on me when I was in therapy. It helps fire u the muscles. While lying on my side doing clams. I have a smaller version than the therapy one but it's pretty good

Hi Linda
I dislocated my hip at 16 months post op. I'm now suffering with damage nerves in my foot. I've been told there's nothing that can be done only giving me tablets. I've had a months supply of tablets and it doesn't feel any different. I've tried creams, Physiotherapy, a chiropractor and acupuncture All too avail, I don't know what to try next. Have you got any ideas.
All the best
Brenda

Oh I also had small stress fractures on femur and so he tied to cables around the femur. Been wondering if that's not bothering me with this thigh pain. But my first surgery was an anterior second which is about 2/3 inches away from first and he did have to remove butt muscle. That too has been a bit of a pain!!
