hip displacement after replacement
Posted , 11 users are following.
I had my hip replaced and after 7 weeks of great recovery I bent the wrong way and my hip popped out. Now the Dr. tells me this could happen at any time again. I'm very depressed. Help

Wish I had words of wisdom for you, so sorry for you this is something I dread happening. I am in week twelve now and still worry, it's easy to bend without thinking and damage is done. Take care

So what are they going to do? That is terrible. I am almost 5 month since my surgery and am in pain in my upper thigh and groin, plus a limp. Going for an MRI with a second doctor this week. I have a feeling something is wrong too! I know so many people who have Total Hip Replacements, but have NEVER seen anything like this site with all these things that are going wrong. I live in NYC and no one had any of these issues

Hi its easy to twist/turn and your hip pop out but now it's done it once you are going to have to be even more careful than you where, make sure you sleep on your back, ask if you can have a spicca brace to keep you straight until the muscles strengthen enough to hold it in place you could need to be careful for upto a year, what have you been advised to do excercise wise as you definitely need to still be doing them.
Ask about hydrotherapy sessions

Has this happened to you? How do you know it will be a year? After the year will the hip be "normal"? I really need some good news.

No i haven't personally dislocated hip but i have an unhealed hip fracture/pelvis and plenty of investigative information that has brought up dislocation on a regular basis and i have spoken to my Physio regarding this as i want to know all the risks and possibilities after i have the op and yes the prognosis is good if you follow the instructions and don't deviate, i have sent you a really good link, have a read and let me know what you think

For some reason the site will not allow me to message you the link, I will try and get a reason why as its a reputable site

sorry to hear that I took this surgery lightly and it turned out to be more than I anticipated.

You will, Kathy. I am at 14 weeks post op and doing everything I need to do including cutting my own toe nails. I am still very careful bending etc and a bit sore if I do a little too much but it does get easier every day and you'll soon look back and think how quickly it all went.

You poor thing. It's what we all dread! I am at 14 weeks post op and, like you, have made a brilliant recovery. However, I am still very careful how I bend and still do the "ballet pose" with my operated leg sticking out behind me. As you say, it's very easy when you are feeling good to forget and do somethng a bit too strenuous. My physio told me at after about 8 weeks you've got to be either very unlucky, very stupid or just plain forgetful - as you were. I'm sure, having done it once, you aren't likely to forget again. Try to be careful but not worry too much and I wish you good luck.

That is the one thing that we all dread, and I'm sorry that you have suffered it.
We all need to remember to be careful, as we have raised risk for about 6 months after a THR.
