Hip, groin, and thigh pain since hip replacement

I had my right hip replaced in October 2011. At first everything seemed to have gone well. My surgeon released me back to work four months later. That was when everything started to go downhill. I ended up having to go on disability in July of 2012. I'm in constant pain in my hip, groin, and thigh. When I sneeze or cough I almost hit the ground the pain gets so bad, The orthopedic doctors can't find anything wrong with the implant. They sent me to physical therapy, and pain management which neither helped. I can't sit to long, stand to long, walk very far, and stairs are a killer. It's been five years and I'm still in pain everyday. Has anyone else experienced this type of problem? I don't know what to do or where to turn for help.

Oh my gosh.  So very sorry.  It's ridiculous!  I don't know where you live, but if it was me I'd go to A & E and say you cannot stand the pain!  They'd have to deal with it and get you referred back to the consultant.

That's awful. You shouldn't have to put up with that. They investigated it and come up with nothing ? Surely they have an obligation to help you further.

    So sorry...

perhaps you will seek out a neurologist...nerves may have been injured.

    Hi wmcravener,

I'm in same boat as you I was born with hip dysplasia first thr Nov 1993 I wad 27 fast forward Oct 2013 had to have revision after that surgery 3yrs ago I tried at 6months to go back to work only 4 hours a day I could hardly make it went back to my doctor and he sent me to neurologist.

Turns out I have sciatic nerve damage from Oct 2013 surgical site . I'm in pain all the time could no longer do my job and been on disability ever since.

I have hearing for permanent disability Dec of this year. I get so frustrated because I can't do the things I used to. I don't sleep well at all either. I'm also still on pain meds and antidepressants.

I found good doctor last year that had to go back in and do deep implant removal of wires and bone graft. That was may of 2015.

Now I have new insurance and that doctor doesn't take my insurance. Now I'm have pain at ball socket. Anyway I know trying to stay positive is only way to keep going in now 50 and don't have the life I used to. Thanks for letting me share i wish you the best.

    Take care

      Hi Jackie,

So very sad to learn of your difficulties. Perhaps you can find a doc associated with the medical school of a university.

Also a TENS might help you with the pain.

      ,

And lack of sleep increases pain...my neurologist suggested I take Melatonin 3 mg two hours before bedtime. Melatonin is naturally produced by our bodies in preparation for sleep. Took a couple of days, then glorious sleep withoutthat drugged feeling. No script required.

I will be thinking of you

      kind regards
