Hip Joint Injury, Movement Limited-- what is this? what do I do?

So I am a professional dancer and am studying to be a personal trainer (no, I do not want to hear "well you're NOT ANYMORE" thank you.)
Sorry, I am very afraid and desperately want to find out what this is and fix the damage I did.
I was stretching one day, holding onto the wall in front of me with my left leg behind me in a high arabesque. I lose grip on the wall and I'm falling. My left leg is still extended in the air, but it falls to the side and I hear a loud, nasty pop in the hip joint. I could feel the pop occur in the back of my hip. Something clearly moved where it wasn't supposed to. It really freaking hurt for five seconds (enough to scream,) and then I immediately rested in fear.
At first, my range of motion was severely limited. Currently, I cannot extend to the side past 90 degrees while turned out. Not without it feeling like everything is being pulled in every direction. Passe on the left doesn't hurt at all, I guess because it counts as adduction (bringing your limbs in) instead of abduction (extending them out) even if hip rotation is involved in execution. Balance on the left leg is noticeably worse, but not painful.
This is the weirdest part-- I can still be in an arabesque on the left leg, and very high without any pain-- but I cannot be in arabesque on the opposite leg very well; and then the pain drastically increases when I bring my torso down to the left leg (to stretch) while the right leg is lifted. --(just to offer some context, this is a basic barre stretch, so warming up beforehand is optional and I always perform other stretches before moving on to this one.)
Now I tried seeing if consulting google would help me find others who have this same injury. It's probably not a dislocated hip, because exercises for it (like extending your leg to the side repeatedly while feet are parallel) aren't really making a difference in the couple weeks I have done it every day. So it's either not that, or my injury is deep, or I am impatient.
My range of motion is wider than it was immediately after the injury, but it's certainly not back to the previous range and the pain is not bearable (and I have had pinched nerves in my neck and sprained an ankle, so I am not a baby.)
I'm gaining weight rapidly and going in and out of depression because I'm having to rest instead of push myself and it feels hopeless (and I don't even eat poorly, so please don't lecture me about my diet, because it really is balanced and not the problem. Please don't tell me about antidepressants either. Sorry again, I just don't want advice on that because then we also go off topic. I'd like to examine the underlying cause, and not effects. Thanks for your zen levels of patience.)
What the heck is this injury?
What did I do? What can I do?
How do I fix this without surgery?
Do I need surgery? Please don't say I need surgery.
It really is starting to get better, but I'm concerned about whether or not it'll completely heal. I really want to know what exactly this is, and how I can expedite the healing process with the right exercises and corrective movement.
Because there wasn't a car accident or momentum involved, I do have hope that I can fix it on my own if I know enough about it.
Sorry again about the abundance of parentheses, I just want to provide as much context as possible and make sure you know what I am asking about and not asking about.
Thank you so much for reading.

Ballethurts, the only way you will be able to discover exactly what is wrong with your hip is to go to an orthopedist who is very knowledgeable about hips for a diagnosis and treatment plan. It's a shame you had this injury and are having such problems. May you find an excellent physician to help you!
