Hi
I was due to get a hip operation on monday got to the hospital spoke to the anaesthetist..got tagged and waiting to get changed when the surgoen appeared saying it was cancelled due to equipment..which i had tthe week before had a call about and told i had to come in for xrays so they could book out equipment needed..went through the stress of leaving my kids and its not easy as i only have my husband and dad(copd sufferer) so it was alot of organising..time off work ect. i read online that they had to offer an apointment within the next 28days..has anyone experienced this? it was planned for summer holidays as my children could be at home to help as we cant have my husband off work 6weeks. I feel like my xrays only got looked at ...then the days holidays lost...i was able to get back to work today...if an emergency came in i would have totally understood...was just upset the way it got dealy with...i have made a complaint so i can find out what happened ..i have asked what time frame would they aim for but they cant answer..i did ask about the 28 days but they said they never heard of it?
thanks

Hi there, I had a similar situation happen to me, my op was cancelled because I was sick at the hospital while waiting for my op. I was last on the list and had been there for aobut 8 hours. I was sent home and given an appointment about 3 weeks later.
I had to arrange to have my mum look after my kid as I'm a single parent and had taken time off work, I went back to work untill I got my next appointment.
They say 28 days because one of the blood samples you give has to be re done after 28 days so it saves you another trip to the hospital for pre op...
Hopefully you will get your new date soon..good luck x

The 28 days thing was on the nhs site saying if it doesnt get offered within that period they had to get you in somewhere.

Hi Leanne, my op was supposed to be yesterday I got a call on Monday to cancel it which was bad enough but your situation must be really distressing, fingers crossed they will push a new date through quickly mine is in 2 weeks time if all my results come back OK so fingers crossed let's hope they can slot you in , have you tried calling the surgeon's secretary to see if she can intervene her number should be on your original operation date letter. X

I've just got back from the hospital after picking up my repeat sleep apnia test kit, I hope this one works as I'll be cancelled again if not, after begging the nurse she has agreed to check it as soon as I get it back tomorrow morning to make sure there are no delays. Your in a worse predicament than me as I've got no small children to work around which must be a nightmare. Keep me updated on your progress X

That sucks !!??
You have to be in a socialised medicine country. Here in the US drs want to operate so they get paid !!! It's one of the perks of our system. I've never heard of this happening here. I've had appointments cancelled but never for lack of equipment being arranged !! I hope you can get all your ducks in a row when the bureaucrats decide to do your operation
Good luck to you. Hope the best for you & family !!
Luv to all

My In-Laws live in the states they couldnt belive it...also you wont belive this I wasnt allowed to have my husband wait with me and i dont mean when the surgery was getting done i mean the wait up to it so i had to sit through it myself..i think they way they treat people is disgusting...this by the way is Glasgows super hospital...I was told they dont have space for patients to have someone wait. I was ok but i seen a old lady shaking with no one to hold her hand ...I know treatment in the usa is expensive...but i have suffered in pain for 16years and the nhs wouldnt do a thing..even though this was a mistake from birth by the nurse.

Good Morning
Leanne.
See ya got a date so "Here we Go". 🤠 You'll be fine & your pain will be relived 😀😀😀
Our health care is no more expensive than yalls. Yall pay for yalls on every paycheck. We pay when it gets done ...We fight against anything that gives government control of because they ain't experts in anything but wasting our money.
Making laws in areas they know nothing about.
I paid my bill off at $100 a month & sone bills $20 a month. So it wasn't so bad.
My surgerys went great nothing to them. I'm having trouble with one but we are lookiing into it. I am in the .01% that has a trouble with nerve pain in left hip 😜😜. Had my replacements in dec 30/16 & march 2017.
Drop me a line after your surgery & let me know how you are doing. Your going be amazed when the pain is gone it's GREAT
Luv to ya & family
David

Hi Leanne, sorry to hear about your cancellation especially since it was because of poor planning by the hospital. My surgery (along with a few others) was cancelled the day before because of an emergency case. The OR grid (i.e. timetable) is controlled by the MD secretaries at the hospital where I had my surgery (haha people think it's by the surgeons). So I called the secretary repeatedly for any news of cancellations...people change their minds, or are not well enough. I tried to be super nice. I was lucky enough to get a spot about 10 days later. Best of luck to you. Leah

Hi Leanne,
I got an infection in the incision so that has slowed me down quite a bit. But I'm in no pain other than the soreness of the incision. I have 3 teenaged boys so my house looks like a FRAT house, oh well at least they get me stuff. Glad to hear that you got a date and that your recovery will happen in the summer.
