Hip pain after partial knee replacement

Posted , 6 users are following.

I had a partial knee replacement 2 months ago. Knee has occasional pain but hip and thigh have severe pain 9/10. I am unable to sleep and pain is worse at night. I am trying to avoid taking pain medication and I often have to give in because of the level of pain.  My physician does not know why I'm having pain and suggested I follow up with my primary. Is anyone else experiencing severe hip pain and what did you do?

I had lower back pain still have at 7 mths worse at night , sometimes goes into one hip , see surgeon or get hip X-ray mine isn’t my hip but it’s  quite uncomfortable . I went to chiro hasn’t really helped , I’m worried it’s my hip I can’t face another surgery , but i think it would have been picked up when they did a long leg X-ray before surgery that I think went from hip to feet , did you get that as may be able to just have a look at it . Is yours better as you move around ?

It is actually better when I move around. I did not get a full x ray.  I may have to go back and ask for another x ray.

I am 6 months Post RTKR and now my left hip and lower back are killing me.  Saw my Chiropractor yesterday...he said one of the reason is the way I am walking (which I had kind of figured since my husband has pointed out that I am walking down the stairs funny).  He said I am not fully extending me knee when I walk.  He also asked if I am having trouble sleeping on my left side and I said YES.   He was thinking because of the way I was walking I was developing bursitis around my hip and that I would need to see my family doctor for that.

After reading this site for many months I expected to be "out of wack" with my back/legs/hips so it was not unexpected.   That seems to be the norm.

Yes I think it must be to do with walking but I don’t think I am walking odd! Doesn’t hurt to lie on . I didn’t get it when I had first knee done 7 yrs ago ! Maybe just older now

I was able to bend my knee pretty quickly after surgery and was walking without a limp soon after my surgery, the pain in my hip started just recently, I agree that it is probably that am walking different and that is why I am having pain. I just wish I knew how to fix it. I feel a little better knowing that I am not unique having this pain.

Wow I'm sorry you're having those issues, I haven't had any issues with my hip but I heard that if you keep using your knee and also I was told to keep it straight even when lying down you should not twist your leg and knees even if you get up be sure until you strengthen your body be real careful getting up and down because it could weaken your hip bone. I pray that you feel better, and I've been home from TKR for 1 day and already up walking..

I had PKR Sept 2017 and now I just had to have a TKR July 9, 2018 due to the partial separated in my knee and the whole entire time I thought that the Plastic and Cement was sticking me in my leg and causing me pain and to my surprise my Doctor said when he went in to operate it was my femoral bone poking me and causing pain!!! I am just so ready to get on with this therapy for this new TKR and now to move on to the next part of healing!!

Remember when you get new knees that your day while body is realigned— it may just be the new way your knees are that it is affecting other parts of your body. It should get better with time.

I thought about that.  I am concerned because I am going back to work in 3 weeks. I am a nurse and on my feet for many hours. I can't take pain medication while at work and trying not to take it now. I am currently taking 1 pill a day and asked for tramadol which is a lower form of pain medication. This seems to work most of the day but at night is when i really feel the pain in my hip.

Pain meds ate for a purpose...PAIN. Don't be misled that you will become addicted if you take them. Its hard to do your exercises if you have to fight the pain. Scroll thru and find the writings of Chico Marx. The man will tell you the why's and why nots of following Drs orders to a tee and pain meds are part of I'd. I've had 11 surgeries and 5 complete rehab s and I wouldn't be walking today with out the prescribed opiates. I started at 65 and I'm now 81. Last week I had back surgery and you bet, I'm on oxy.

I totally agree you need those meds to help you along the way. I on my 2 knee surgery but I've had 10 other surgeries and you definitely need the meds to help manage pain while you heal!

I tried to stop taking them and just wanted to die. I wasn't in continuous pain but it was bad at times, especially at night.  I just don't want to get addicted. That is a lot of surgeries, hope you're doing well.
