Hip replacement.

I had a hip replacement in October, and still have pain and discomfort, I feel like a vegetable, I cannot go out and do things, for example, keep active, exercise, and I don't really know what I can do to keep me active in the house.
I am 17 years old, and have no hobbies or interests, what can I do to make sure I stay in shape, but do not jeopardise the surgery.
Can people help me, and tell me what they did to keep themselves occupied?
Many thanks.

obviously you will feel embarrassed but it must be done . Do you have family and friends to support you , and take you out?
perhaps this would be a good time to start a new hobby ?
i am wondering from reading what you have said if you have been afraid to go out and exercise and that's why you are struggling ?
even walking down the street and back a few times a day makes you feel better .
keep in touch

Please read what Mary has said as I agree. Also to give advice if you wouldn't mind saying a bit more about your personal
Circumstances, for example Do you live on your own? Do you have anyone helping you?
Most 17 year olds would be in college or 6th form. Is this something you would like to aim for when you are feeling better?

I think you should start with your doctor to get to the root of the pain...if it ends up being just your recovery phase, than I would ask him to refer you to a physio therapist so you can get the exerciises that are right your you and your surgery, even swimming if he allows it....perhaps there are some interest courses/programs at your local library or community centre (if someone can get you there)....without knowing what type of support you have at home it is difficult to say, but for sure walking is free and it is good for your both physically as well as for the spirit.
Perhaps send out an sos call on this site or other ones for young people like yourself to share information and advice....all the best, we are all thinking of you, Patricia from Toronto

We are trying to help but its hard with so little information.
Most of us are told to go out immediately {more or less} and walk a few steps and then back and gradually walk further. This is about 1 week after surgery ..am I reading it correctly that its about 6 months since you had yours?
If your pain isnt under control you need to go nd see you GP and get some different mdication. Once your pain i under control.....not ncessarily gone completely then you will be able to go out. Get your physiotherapist to give you some exercises to do.
Now that the summer is nearly here you need to get out and about a bit.
Sorry but all this is without any information about yourself or your circumstances.
Tell us a bit more and we can help more.
Love
