Hi I am almost five months and walking with a limp. my surgeon is now saying it is a tilted pelvis. Also the operated hip is longer than other leg and he doesn't want to admit that there is a leg length discrepancy. keeps saying it will straighten out but I don't believe him. Also have pain in upper thigh to my groin,, with burning sensation. Going to get an MRI next week through another doctor. Am not happy, keep in touch and tell me what your doctor advises

i,m 7 weeks in and my limp is terrible. My pt said my leg is still not strong enough. I'm on 1 crutch and not nearly ready to go without. someone on this site has told me not to judge my recovery by anyone else's recovery speed. I believe that is good advice. Keep doing your exercises and my prayer are with you.

I'm surprised that you've been allowed to use only one crutch. i was told by my physio to always use the 2 as it keeps you straight and even. using one unbalances you and could cause problems.

Advice varies, I was told to go down to 1 crutch as soon as I felt comfortable, which for me was day 4. I did continue to use 2 crutches outside though, until week 6. At that point I had my only physio appointment, was shown how to walk properly, heel to toe, and sent home without my crutches. I had a very good recovery but I still limped a bit for quite a while, but it did gradually improve I was told that total recovery can take up to a year, and certainly my hip got better and better during that time.

I'm sorry that you are still walking with a limp. I suggest using two crutches until your muscles have gained sufficient strength.

There is absolutely no reason why you should not be able to walk without a limp. I had a hip replaced twenty years ago and never limped and carried on with a very physical job. until it needed revising last year. NO limping with the new one and am able to swim over half a mile daily swimming the breaststroke and walk six miles a day. BTW I'm seventy seven years old and had a replacement of a five year old total ankle replacement in February this year. So go for it! Cheers Richard

Hello, I am 12 weeks post op and still have a slight limp. It seems to be taking longer than I expected to build that muscle back up. I do 10 to 15 minutes on the treadmill and feel great when I get off. By the next day or later that day the slight limp is back. Keep at it and you will see results.
