Hi Janice, I am 15 weeks post op and still need my stick when walking any distance. I have been doing physio for weeks and I am not getting to the root of the problem of the pain in my groin wich causes the limp. I do have a length discrepancy with my operated. Leg and am waiting for my shoe wedge.

Oh dear that's not good have you been told that is why you limp, is to do with length leg? Only I have no problem with length, but do get pain in groin when walk with out stick, my walking is very different to the way I walked before op, it seems forced,

St. Catharines is where my relatives are, I'm 58 and live in England, yes it's a bit more than3hrs flight!!!! How did your surgery go? Did you have to stay in hospital for long, I was in for 3days and had fantastic treatment, but wish there is a bit more follow up, only had the phisio in 2times what is the follow up like in Canada? That's why I find this forum helpful

      Hi

I'm in the North East of England and i got no follow up either.....a piece of paper with exercises on it and told to do themeek

Its not as easy when you have to do them yourself.....or thats what I find. If I dont have to be responsible to a physiotherapist I can slip somedays and not do themsad

      Hi Janice

I'm complicated....well this THR is. I had it done at the end of Jan and  4 weeks later when doing an NHS exercise there was a crack....hospital....they x rayed it, said I had fractured my Greater Trochanter Bone?? They could do nothing, it would heal itself but would take a long time. 6 months on from THR, 5 months on from fracture when I'm outside I still  need 2 crutches if going very far. Inside I dont use any but dip very badly to one side.....I have a feeling I'm going to left with a permanent dip.

BUT it had nothing to do with the THR for anyone having one.....they checked afterwards and discovered I have osteoporosis and thats why it fractured so easily.

It doesnt help me.....I get quite depressed because it is supposed to heal and doesnt seem to be healing mad

      T hanks Patricis

I have OA, Kypho scoliosis, Osteoporosis and I seem to be able to manage them. I'm a volunteer for arthritis care and help others but this fracture gets me down, I think because it is supposed to heal....the others arent and when it doesnt seem any better I get frustrated

Hi Janice, St. Catharines is very nice, somewhat like the town I live in (but 3 hours away from me at least.  I also was in hospital 3 days, but was to get out in 2 but I refused as I was really nausious and did not have any follow up from physio, so I said until I saw physio and could do stairs and go to bathroom alone I was not going home!!!!  I can be stubburn, so they let me stay and sent physio to see me, but trust me over here it is the rusty wheel that gets action...you always have to advocate for yourself...the nurses were very patient and supportive, the doctors (residents) you saw for literally l5 seconds and that was that...I do get physio paid for by our health plan, but you have to get there...you start 2 weeks post op, so we shall see how many times I go a week and how much I like the person, just like everything there are good therapists and not so good ones!!!!...love this forum, as although I'm doing great and can't complain I'm only 5 days post op, so troubles could pop up yet and all information received here can be useful.....trying to read a book, but find I can't focus, will try a "smutty magazine" oops smutty means gossip!!!
