Hi everybody I have just found this forum and it seems very helpfull I had myop 4 weeks ago tomorrow I invested in a electric chair before hand and it has been a godsend although I only sleep for two or three hours at a time I cannot sleep in bed yet I am looking forward to that. I am still using two sticks to.walk and wondered when I can stop using them. I have two more injections to go I hate them as I dont like needles. Im afraid I have put on half a stone since I got home so need to start dieting again, anyone else have this problem?

Hi moi88935 I am 67 and I had to lose weight before they let me have the op so I think that's why I ate everything in sight when I got home also I have only just taken the plaster off my wound as nobody told me I could it looks a bit red and sore but it don't hurt. I hope your op goes well the best thing about it is the pain goes away straight away from Ruth

Hi Ruth, you do need to walk as much as you can, just around the house, up and down, this will help to reduce the stiffness and the weight. You will need to use the sticks until you are able to walk without them or/and you stop limping. My physio told me you need to use at least 1 crutch till you stop limping as it helps to improve your gait when walking.

Thank you Christine I try walking around the house every hour and walk outside to the neighbours but I want to go from, two sticks to no sticks if it is at all possible

Hi Ruth you can go with 1 stick as soon as you feel confident and stable. I am 5 wks on Friday post op, but often forget and walk off without any crutches, but I am limping, though I have the same problem in my in operated hip which could be causing this. I use 2 crutches to walk upstairs or outside but 1 around house on each floor, however everyone is different and it depends on how safe you feel. I definitely still need to use my crutches at the current time.

    Hi Ruthann,

Please don't be too anxious to go from 2 sticks to none at all.  Ease your way down to one and then none.  It's always better to be safer than sorry.  Also, I'm from the USA so words here are different to me.  Are "sticks" canes or crutches and what is a half a stone?  I too lost weight prior to surgery (7 1/2 weeks ago THR), but have gained most of it back.  Good luck to you!!!!  Ginny USA

I knew what socks are but not the term stone.

By the way I gained 23 pounds in the first six months too. But since 22 Nov I have lost 23'.6 pounds and 20 inches.I'm looking pretty good.

I was up to 221 pounds when I started the diet.and this one doesn't require sooo much exercise.

I am also 67 and from the USA. I am 5wks post THR now and gosh my appetite has now come back and I desperately don't want to regain the 45 lbs I've lost over the last two years.. But I crave sweets terribly while not caring too much about regular meals. Not very active yet but will be walking in two weeks with full weight on operated hip. (  having slow recovery). My wheelchair is regular type but I love my electric recliner and it is very comfortable! Sleep is still difficult. Hope I can sleep on my side soon.

      Best Wishes

      Hi Lee,

what part of USA???  I am eating like crazy.  I lost 36 pounds prior to surgery (I still needed to loose a lot more, but every bit counted), and i'm afraid ive gained almost all back since i have been home.  I also quit smoking.  so, between the surgery and not smoking, i have a double whammy.  i know i will work the weight off once i get going again.  summer will soon be here and i live in new jerey by the shore.  wont be long before i walk the boardwalk pain free!!!!  Sleep will change for you shortly!!!!  hang in there!!
