Oh gosh Delkie - you have been unlucky but thank goodness you got to the doctor and xray so quickly to avoid more damage.

Sending big hugs and prayers for a smooth and rapid recovery from your operation - and no further disruptions.

Yikes! So the ball itself has fractured? What kind of appliance did you have?

Yikes so sorry. Can't imagine the shock you must be in, not to mention waiting to have the hip components repaired. hope your comfortable and have help at home.

Do you know the manufacturer? And what component failed? Any compensation for the pain and THR redone?

I would suggest that a medical photographer be present during  the repair surgery. There must be a defect in the component or the design. What did the dr say why it failed?

Take it easy and be vary careful. I joined the hippie club years ago , will be

Keepin you in my thoughts and prayers.

    Peace & Heeling

Hi Delkie.  I have heard of many people who have dislocated their hip after having the anterior thr.  My surgeon didnt want me to go to therapy due to this.  So I had home health doing therapy with me.  I had my rthr anterior in March of 2014 and have been having trouble with it every since.  Check out what type and brand of hip you are having put in.  Do some research on your surgeon and his expertise in this area of anterior hip replacements.  I have never heard of ball joint slintering.  I hope all goes well for you, and keep me updated

This is what could have happened to me, but it didn't - my ceramic insert (the socket part) was put in crooked, and there was a chance it could splinter or crack.  It hasn't, and the surgeon couldn't get it out in a second operation .... so I am stuck with it until a better surgeon (who I now have) can cut out the old bits and replace them.

Sounds like yours is in the right place, so a 30 minute operation to replace the parts and you'll be back on your feet again in no time  -  oh and sleeping on your back again sad for another 6 weeks
