Yes it is normal during recovery, especially from in activity. My sister did develop anemia after her surgery and had to take iron supplements. Non-heme kind since we are both vegans.

Thank you so much everyone
Another problem I am dealing with is some fluid retention on the bottom of the leg on the side of the new hip. I was so sendantary before the replacement just sitting and sitting that I got swelling on the bottom of both legs. But now that I'm able to lift the leg without too much pain I'm trying to alleviate the swelling which also gives pain, above my heart. it seems to be helping some since i just started to do it for about a week. any comments or advice will be greatly appreciated.

Yes I think it's normal to feel tired post op.
Re swelling, when you elevate your leg put something cold around the swollen part. Someone on here suggested freezing a damp flannel/ face cloth, and that works well.
Good luck!

My daughter in law is a physio. She swears by ice packs. I kept two in the freezer and used them every time i did a lot of exercise or there was any swelling. Try to elevate your leg too as the lymphatic system drains from the groin

Hi, I'm 2 weeks post op and I say rest when you need to, knap when you need to. Everyone's body is different and fatigue is the way your body tells you to take it easy. You've had a major operation and every body must take a slightly different route and time to heal than the next person's. Keep positive, I'm sure it will get better in time.

My doctor does not believe in compression stockings, did not wear them for either surgery.

Susan, please let us know what he or she says. I start my out of home therapy on Jan 8 and i will also ask. Putting the legs up above the heart helps with the swelling. But when I awake in the morn my legs really ache and burn until I get them moving. Ive had 3 ultrasounds and all was ok (no clots..no clogged veins. I have to see. maybe strengthening my legs will help. i just dont know.
