I had a new hip replacement 9 weeks ago I was still having pain but not too bad when suddenly today my hip became extremely painful for no reason I can't put any weight on it I've taken paracetamol and am forced to rest it. I am worried there might be something wrong is this pain after so long normal .people I know tell me how wonderful their hip OPS. were and how they returned to normal so quickly, I feel as though I'm taking too long and now I can't do anything again feeling disappointed and worried margaret

hi. if it was me I'd go and get it checked out probably where they can xray it if necessary. I've never had one but it sounds like how they describe a dislocation ?? especially if you cant weight bear on it.
good luck ket us know how you get on

She has put me on pain patches with paracetamol and dyhydracodine.
it is a good idea your going to your dr as it sounds a bit like mine had op 23rd MAY I CERTAINLY DONT FEEL IT WAS THE BEST THINK I DID . GOOD LUCK

If you needed a hip replacement I rather wonder how your situation would have been improved by not having the surgery. Keeping up the exercises and using both crutches until you are walking strongly with a good gait is the best way forward if the surgeon has done a good job. Cheers, Richard

I went to see my doctor I was told I was doing things my hip is not ready for, I was given stronger pain killers and told to give my body time to heal as it is a big op, and everyone is different some people take longer than others, I must say I was trying to run before I could walk I felt I was expected to do better and not give in to pain. my hip just said no I couldn't do any thing for 24 hours it was bed rest until it had settled down , so I will listen to my hip and be more careful thankyou for your support I've written all this as it might help someone else

hi. very pleased it turns out to be nothing portable: )
yes it's very hard not to try to push yourself too hard but I'm learning to listen to my body more. I've found if I do too much ( like mowing my lawn for example) it jiggers me up for a couple of days so I end up doing very little for that time. I'm still taking painkillers twice a day (otc ones) .
think esp with being on here which is brilliant you can see how well others do but how others cope with their recovery. I know just before I had my OP my eldest daughter said to me "by christmas you'll be better" and I can remember thinking I'll be better well before then no fear. but I think tbh shes right. will be a good 6 months + before I can say that.
anyway rest easy and listen to your body - it's very good at giving you hints .

Hello Margy70
Are you sure it is the actual hip or is it the psoas tendon causing the pain.
Glad you have booked an appointment to check it out.
Hopefully you have not been overdoing it or doing things you are not ready for.
I have had 3 hip replacements (1 faulty) and am always aware to do the right thing by my hips as there is no way I want to go there again! Listen to your body and most importantly listed to your doctor and physio.

hi ive also sent him a e mail before i see him on monday .
i thought it might be tendon as ive been researching where the pain is ?
But i certainly felt it nearly come out again ...i know when it is muscle or joint after 4 dislocations . Now is swollen and bruised in front of thigh 😦
thanks is good to know there are people out there with same or similar things that have been through these sort of things that happen , sometimes i feel they just placate you to get u out .
You know think its all in your head ?

yes the doctor said it was a torn ligament and I should not have been on all fours cleaning the floor, so I will definitely be more careful as I want to get back to normal with out these painful set
