Hip replacement after painkilling injection

How long after a steroid cortisone injection into my hip joint should I wait before having a hip replacement? I’ve read if you have the operation before 12 weeks after you run a higher risk of getting an infection in the joint is this accurate ?

Ask your surgeon, some seem to think it makes no difference, others won't touch you with a barge pole for months afterwards.

I had injection then 6 months later had another injection then after 4 weeks had fhr , I had complications and infection but it was nothing to do with injection hope that helps

Most surgeons would like you to wait 6 months. Steroids cause slow healing and there can be more chance of infection so surgeons like to be ultra careful.

Shirley, my surgeon told me that I would know when it was time. I had both replaced with pain levels of 13 on a scale of 1 to10! I would check with surgeon as how long after shot.

All I can say is I waited way to long. I wanted to kiss him after as I felt 300% better.

    Hi Shirley

I had a steroid shot at the beginning of April and I'm having my hip replaced at the end of July.  My doc simply said this was the earliest he will do it after a steroid injection.

Injections never helped my hips at all. Just hurt worse once the analgesic wore off. Soon Shirley and Beth you will be joining the hippie community and you'll be glad you did. I wish you the best of success when THR becomes your next option.

I think I shocked the socks off my surgeon, when I told him bring it on, can I have the surgery today please.

?Members of my family, closest to me Uncle bill had double hip replacement surgery at 80, and told me when he saw me walking with difficulty at a family function, he told me my hips are stuffed, with stronger words than I can use here, and go and see your Dr, all he did was give me more painkillers, waste of time and dangerous as the specialist told me I had waited far to long, to fire my GP.

?First outpatient appt in public hospital and surgery 10 days apart, but got complicated after that with blood clots, but that's another story.

?On day of surgery, I don't think the nursing staff and Dr's had a happier patient, just very happy something was finally happening, I kept telling myself and everybody around me, if Uncle Bill could do this at 80, I could do the same at 60, very good outcome after some problems with 2nd THR, but much better than I was before surgery, could NOT WALK.

I was the same, I was worried silly the surgery would be postponed. The pain was so awful I kept ticking off the hours.
