Hip replacement and steroids

Posted , 7 users are following.

I had a right hip replacement two years ago.  I have just been put on prednisolone steroids as a precaution as I may have temporal arteritis.  Does anyone know if steroids interfere with a new hip?

    Hi Fandango,

I live with COPD and have to use steroids frequently and it has not affected my new hips at all. However, after 30 years of intermittant, sometimes heavy steroid use to help me breathe, I can tell you that the ONLY reason I had to have hips replacements is because the steroids killed my natural hip and shoulder joints.  Avascular Necrosis.

HOWEVER, please do not panic about what happend to me until you have used corticosteroids for as long as I have and in as large of doses at times that I have had to use.

    Take care,

    Dawn, USA
