hip replacement approach

Probably best to Google this for more info. I believe the posterior approach the incision is made though the side/buttock.not sure about post lateral, I,had what,was called a,Lateral approach and they went through the front of my thigh

The differences is posterior is normal were you have a cut in the leg to the hip replacement and the postlateral is like key hole.

I am not a doctor but if you but the words in Goole one at the time you will see the difference That all I did good luck with it allooks, I had mine left hip fitted 6 months ago and it is great.

Anterior approach goes through the front of the body, posterior is through the rear Buttocks and the lateral approach is through the side of the hip.

This is all I know. I had the anterior approach on my right hip and it went perfecfly, then on my left hip that failed. I had to have a revision surgery for the left hip and am five weeks out from and it was done the lateral approach.

Choosing one is entirely your decision. Reasearch well and ask loads of questions. Each approach has different limitations or lack of limitations, however, I do not believe that any one aspect should be used to make a final decision. For instance, success rates matter and how tried and true a procedure is.

Another tool to use in selecting a surgeon is to find consumer ratings and read them.

Hi posterior lateral approach is on your side of thigh. Posterior means back. So the incision is six inches on the side of your thigh.

I had the posterior lateral which is also the same as posterior approach. I am six months post operative.

Hip replacement . In general is now a very regular and successful op, the approach used depends on several factors including, who your surgeon is , expected recovery outcome( e.g. how active you are... a 70 + retiree won't perhaps need such a speedy / active recovery as say someone still so working and raising teenage kids) tho of course the age is a generalisation and I know some 70 year-olds who are more active than some 40 year olds I had a minimal invasive technique with a 3- 4 inch incision in the side towards the back of my thigh. This "superpath" method doesn't require the hip to be dislocated and little or no muscle is cut. In the USA this op is becoming more widespread and no precautions are required as the joint capsule is intact the hip can't dislocated. It will probably be 12 months before precautions are removed in uk so I am still doing as told ( mostly)
