hip.replacement infection

Posted , 5 users are following.

I'm 36 and had a hip rep March 2014 after a bad RTA. 6 months after I got sick and they found out I had hip infection. They removed the infected tissue and changed the parts and pumped me full of anti biotic.

I was in and out of hops due to my leg having fluid. By October I was ill again and the infection was back hence complete hip revision. I have been on anti biotic for 6 months and due to come off them as my blood levels have stayed at 13. Worried if they do not keep me on th until my bloods are 0 I will become infected. My leg is full of scar tissue I have very little muscle left Andy leg looks horrendous.Any one had anything similar happen to them

What a terrible story..... One wonders whether it could have been avoided had you been put on anti biotics immediately following surgery. Have you got MRSA?

you must be at rock bottom.   I pray you are onto insurance as you will need rehab for a long while. You must get the BEST gold standard treatment privately through insurance but that doesn't help infection.

There are other alternative routes as if you are resistant to antibiotics and suffer further tissue necrosis I'd be looking at intravenous h202, controversial, but you can do some research. It is not completely alien as has been used for this type of chronic infection. Also, Chinese. They have parallel armouries to cope with these disasters. ANYTHING you can find out..... Were you at a notorious hospital?  Some have a bad record of infections....yours must have been festering from the outset and taking over your poor blood.  Do hope you have support and good positive hopes for future as those endorphins.....  take masses of vit D for yr immune system (sublingual spray the best) and olive leaf tincture at highest concentration. Can't do any harm.  You are not powerless... Once on the mend, you should be able to get cosmetic work but probably won't want to see the inside of a theatre for a long while..... Terrible at your age. Motor accidents...I dread to ask further... Hope it wasn't male 18-25 at fault...those who raise our premiums.

Keep positive and do your research. You are young and your muscles can eventually have robust physio etc and all to which you are entitled as a victim of the roads....it will get better.

    Hi Nicky

i have had a very similar situation and I am an antibiotics again. This time I'm waiting for them to remove the hip as I'm only having the infection suppressed( that will be my 4th revision) there is a possibility I can't get another hip and have to go down the Girdlestone route (Google it if unsure) they removed majority of my muscle due to the infection and a metal on metal reaction. When you mention your bloods going down to zero that won't happen and they do fluctuate. I completely understand what your going through but just try to keep strong. Do you have facebook because I'm in a great group on there with people in a similar situation and you can ask anything you want let me know if you want the details. For the record I'm 43 so like I say similar situation.

      Hi Snape31

I'm sorry to hear you goin through this as well and to be expecting a fourth revision or Girdlestone. I did Google it and didn't realise this was an option although a very last resort.

I'm not surprised to hear my.bloods will continually be in flux as they have been since first opp. My Drs are positive about treatment but I'm aware it can come back. I'm tryin to live as good a life as I can although in the darkest moments I could easily fall apart.

Although I wouldn't wish this on anyone it's nice to know I'm not alone.

If you could send me the Facebook group I'd appreciate it. I really hope your hip can eventually be rectified.

Please keep in touch and let me know how you get on.

      Kind regards

      Nicky

    My dear nicki

What a lot of pain and suffering you have had for someone so young.  I just hope and pray for a speedy recovery from now on and hope that you can remain positive throughout these difficult times.

      Hi Hillary

Thank you for your kind comments.

I'm lucky I have a strong support network although have to say it's been hard on my daughter. But I'm getting there hopefully it will be over soon.

At the end of the day I'm lucky I'm here after the crash so can't really grumble.

      Kind regards

      Nicky

Nicky this site is for people who are suffering... although more recently it seems some in the community only want to read of good results.  I don't do social media so must stay on here, especially as Im heading for hell in a handcart as other side worsening exponentially.... Im checking Prague at the moment, so bad was my first experience...
