Hi, I had my first THR last August and second 15 Feb 15. I had an epidural with mild sedatitive. This was brilliant. Mine did not last two days as I was up the next morning on a walker. I am 47 in the UK. I came home as a passenger in a car on 17Feb (hurts but bearable). I was given the green light to drive after 7 weeks last time. I hope yours goes ahead as planned. Good Luck.

My doctor did not believe in epidurals for pain, so went on IV and oral narcotics for a while.  My I worried about how to get home, b/c they did not do ambulances after surgery.  What worked for the car ride home was I did not attempt to even get in the front passenget seat: instead, i inched myself across the back seat and could therefore stretch my leg out for the ride. Worked well--even did that for the 2 week appointment to doctor.

      Hi Moi

The spoinal block lasted a couple of hours after I came out of theatre {I think lol} hard to remember.

They tried to get me up that evening to walk a few steps but I was too weak so they left it until the next morning and had me up walking

I had an epidural and the feeling came back in my legs in one hour and half after the operation.  After that I had oral painkillers.  I did not get in the car until 6 weeks afterwards.  I felt it was better to be safe than sorry.  I felt fine in the car when the 6 weeks were up.
