Hip replacement worriness.

Hi all Patients

I am in waiting list for hip replacement (first Right and then Left) , it may happen at next October.

My concern is after THR recovery and so on , I`ve heard that the people who had THR never can bend less than 90 or knee down and etc, based on I am contractor and my living is depends on my job and my job depends on bending ,knee down an generally it is tough job, Please advise me what should I do ? can I do my job after rehabilitation 2-3 month after THR or totally I have to forget  this type of job .

If I cant do my job I prefer to post pone the THR time .

Thanks to all.

HI. I dont know about others but I had posterior RTHR and I can bend and kneel down now. I had surgery Mar 15. I am in garden often and on my knees and kneeling lots. I have been past 80 degrees since about 7-8 weeks.Everyobe heals different but it hasn’t stopped me. I am doing a 30 day squat challenge and working hip and bending every day.   Good luck with your surgery. Best to stay as strong and fit as you can before surgery. If at all possible. I was in so much pain I couldn’t do much the last 6 months. But that is what I hear is best

You have restrictions for the first 6 weeks to prevent dislocation of the new joint while the muscles repair and regain strength. After that you should be able to do most things, if you have a normal recovery. I think you are usually advised to avoid contact sports such as rugby but general bending and kneeling should be fine. If your work involves heavy physical work you may be advised to wait a few months before going back. Your surgeon will advise you.

i had my operation on 14 February. Before that I found it almost impossible to kneel or to walk any distance. I’m now doing lots of gardening and kneeling and bending with little difficulty. (I sometimes need to lean on something to get up but I am 70 so that may just be my age!).

You say that you are a contractor. What exactly does that involve? Cheers Richard

The 90 degree restriction varies according to doctor and patient. I’m 3 1/2 months post LTHR (posterior) and my doctor wants me to be careful with the 90 degree rule indefinitely. I can kneel just fine and bend over by stretching the operative leg behind me. My hunch is that you’ll be able to find ways to get around just fine. Good luck!
