Hi Sandra, 15 days RTHR , I HAD That groin pain , if you lift leg , or try, or move inward, also when trying to stand up. For first week, just tried not to make those moves, used yoga strap to pull right leg up onto bed. It got better and is almost gone. I don't know how bad your pain is, mine was pretty severe if I moved wrong 8-9. Been told dislocated hip is really bad , "oh you'll know if you do it" was what I heard. Also saw my doctor on day 10, still hurt then, told him where it hurt, actually showed me on x-ray how it was bottom of where ball meets socket. He, said it was normal and would get better, it is. Hope you're ok. Dave

Thank you Dave that is a  relief.   Pain is ok.  Maybe I can feel it more as I have stopoed co-codomoles.  Only taking occasional paracetamol now.  Thanks

    hi sandra,

it is not unusual to have pain in groin - eventhough it was a revision , an incision needed to be made and with that muscles and tendons were severed and then repaired - all this has to heal and you are still early in recovery - it might take some time, as you probably know from experience -

of course, if you are really worried contact your surgeon -

how are you getting on otherwise?   how long ago was the 1st THR and why did you need a revision ...

    be gentle with yourself okay

    big warm hug

Thanks Renee.  I had first hip 14 years ago.  Had a knee replacement on opposite side 12 months ago and it highlighted  problems  with my hip.  I had a 2cm leg length descrepancy plus  foot was turned out badly thus put pressure on back etc.  walked with severe limp and in contstant pain.  My new surgeon said first one was dine badly!!   I am recovering well, but not as quickly as I have from precvious replacements!,, dont really have lots of pain.  Anti biotics are bad!!  They have had me on 1 gram 4 times day ..... My own doctor has halved that as its okaying hell with my system. I have cut out stong  pain meds and am going with just paracetamols now. i had revision 12 days ago and still feel very tired.......  Cant get to grips with it, normally recover quickly....  Maybe as I have had two replacements in 12 months is something to do with it....  Am 69 so not a spring chicken!!

I had that happen too. It's still there occasionally and can sometimes be sharp. Ice does not help it. I believe it is the psoas muscle and my pt said its normal. So many muscles were moved and pushed that really can twinge and hurt as they are exercised and start working properly again. Hope you feel better... It does get easier. I am 17 and I can't believe how far I've come.

    Hi Sandra,

I have had pain that area - early on then later when I had overdone it or (she hangs her head in shame) when I miss an exercise session. I find that a short burst of heating pad on the area helps . But NOT IF THERE IS SWELLING - if so, you are better off icing the area (always respecting the usual 10 min on 20 min off rule).

I don't really understand the phenomenon, I wonder if there is an exercise I am meant to be doing for it ...

It sounds as if you are doing okay otherwise - thank goodnes as you have been on a long road haven't you?

    Best wishes

Hi Sandra,  I too had the groin pain issue with THR last September.  My PT told me the muscles needed to remember how to work and doing gradual leg raises everyday would remind them.  Seemed to work and didn't take too long before the pain was gone.  They get pushed and prodded during surgery and are letting you know how unhappy they are about it!  LOL  Slow and steady....

I've also heard that if you dislocate your hip, it's difficult if not impossible to even stand or walk on that side.  This from a friend who did it twice after THR.

Best check out Linda 81469's experience in recent posts - not quite what we have been hearing previously.

Linda just dislocated her hip and was still able to walk although in pain. She just had a revision which required a new hip!

Wow!  I hadn't heard that was possible.  I'm almost 12mths post-op.  Not dealing with dislocation but will be having surgery again September 12.  Seems the wire wrapped around my femur may be rubbing on my minimus tendon and tearing it.  Had bad catching pain after bending over and sometimes standing up.  MRI confirms the tear...so going back under.  Not happy about that at all!

I dare say, you are not happy! Interesting that there have been a few posts this week about members of this forum who had this type of 'wire around the hip' treatment. I think it might be intestine to see what kind of composite picture emerges from your collective experience. You might think about a new post focusing on this. Perhaps something along the lines of Roll Call for all those who had wired wrapped around their hip during thr ...

      ...

I really hope your new surgery resolves your problems and there are no lingering negative effects.

      Regards and a big hug,

      L
