Hip still slipping after 11 weeks

Posted , 11 users are following.

I'm 11 weeks post op and still having trouble with a slipping sensation when I bend or lift my knee higher than 90 degrees. I went to see my GP and he said that at 11 weeks I should have full movement and proceeded to move my leg around until it slipped in his hands. I could see the shock on his face so finally someone believes me. I have an appointment with my specialist on Monday. Has anyone else had this problem, I am so disheartened and worried about what can be done. As my THP was the result of an accident not wear and tear I just want my life back.

    Hi Gillian,

What kind of hip did you have put in ?

It may be weak muscles and intensive physio may help.

A hip they put in in some places in Australia is a dual mobility hip which is very difficult to dislocate, and gives full mobility.

Ask the surgeon what joint replacement did he use and would intensive physio help. If you are not satisfied get a second opinion.

    Hi Gillian

as you now have confirmation from your GP that something is wrong I suggest you stop immediately doing any of those things that cause it to slip in case you are risking full dislocation.

take big care of yourself and wishing you the best on Monday. If you get pointed to the registrar refuse to see him - you have the right to ask to see your consultant

    big hugs

    Hi Gillian ...

I agree with all ... remember that there are  NO "should's" here - there is NO NORMAL, so don't get disheartened .....

maybe you can ask for an xray to be taken to make sure everything is okay ...

warm hug and take it easy

Hi Christine I am a private patient so am seeing my specialist in his rooms, so no problems with that. Thank you all for your best wishes, I'm rather isolated where I live and its wonderful to be able to talk over problems with others who know what you are going through. Will let you all know what happens after Monday. Gillian

    Oh Dear, Gillian

That doesn't sound so good. However, you are seeing your specialist quickly so nothing more you can do till then

I would just go steady on exercises/activity in case it aggravates it

Let us know the outcome and don't worry too much - I am sure all will turn out well

    Kind wishes Linda xx

      Hi Gill,

Yes, thanks for asking! Back on two crutches but trying to do more walking and doing the exercises that don't make my damaged muscle hurt more. Going to try and get some physio advice too. And I'm trying to be much more careful!!

Hope you and Alan are both doing well.

      Love, Anna x

Well I have been to see my specialist and have basically been told that my ligaments haven’t mended enough yet to hold the hip in place and I need to be patient, do lots of walking and stick to the 90 degree rule for at least another 2 – 3 months. The other option is to operate and adjust the prosthesis such as a bigger ball, but as I am only 5’2” and very slim this could cause its own problems. So I guess I will just have to be very careful and rely on my husband to put my shoes and socks on – he’s a darling and always has time to help me. I want to cry ‘why me’ but my accident could have been much worse so I really can’t complain. Thank you to all the people who gave me encouragement and best wishes, it was appreciated. Gillian

    Hi Gillian

so glad that it will improve in time, and is not something that needs surgery again.

So hard to be patient when you want to get on

bless your husband, he sounds  a love

    good luck and best wishes

Thank goodness it's not dislocated. It sounds as if it's going to take a little more time to get back the full use of your new joint.

    But you'll get there!
