Hi guys, just one DCT injection to go i had 46 when i left hospital. Down and dirty with the Exercses, i can do most that they gave me to do in bed and out of it. The one i am unable to do is Lift my leg up and then out to the side, as you guys know i had to back twice. First to have my TRHS theni caught an infection to which i had to go back again they opened me up, then Sutured me up they are coming out the Friday my scar is going to be a horrid one, the first sugery i had staple this scar looks horris with the Sutres but they are out, I had a nose and groin swap and a swab of my leaking staple hole, had them on the 15th Feb a day before day of going under the knife. I just can't move my leg up more than a couple of inches when i am laying in our bed. I will be going back for some more physio but i want to wait a  couple of weeks after my Sutures are out. How long did it take you guys after surgery to be able to life up you leg and move it to the side? Hope you all are well x

sounds like you have had a tricky little spell there, i could move my leg out to the side in a fashion about 10 days after my THR. I think you've been a little unlucky there mate but once your up and running it will be ok .

Had my surgery on 12th Feb. Exercise is just walking and gently moving leg forwards and backwards and a few inches out to side - nothing mad! I will be three weeks on Friday and can walk around the house with no aids and I am just using rails to go up the stairs.

My consultant advises that fitness should come back naturally because he wants you to preserve the hip for as long as possible and not strain any of the surrounding tendons and muscles that have already taken a beating during surgery. Makes sense to me and I have heard a lot of people getting all sorts of strains on this forum.

I would be interested to see if any one else had the same advice about preservation.

It was 3rd week before I could move my leg, that being the 3rd week after my revision op.  I had lovely scar first time but the re op has left a scar twice as long and going up to my backside.  I was gutted x

Oh you have been through it Hope you feel better soon..  The side one is the hardest for me too, I can do it a bit now but still painfull, two weeks for me.

Actually very frustrating when your brain is telling your leg to move and it won't.

It took me quite awhile to lift surgical leg up and out to the side, don't remember exactly. For probably the first two weeks I couldn't lift it up even the couple of inches you are managing to do now! Just keep walking with your aids as feels safe to you, and doesn't cause more pain, and the lifting will come back in time. No reason to rush!

Months I'm afraid, in my case, but kept trying, and kept up my treading water in my local pool.

Finally a few weeks ago had a review appointment with Physio Dept after waiting months for appoitment, and this physio ahowed me how to feel for the right muscles working especailly the clam shell, once I mastered the feeling for the muscle working, I was able to focus more on that particular muscle and finally get it going what a difference it has made to my ability to walk correctly, even physio commented on 2nd appt, how much difference i had in gait.

While I was at physio she checked all my muscles for strength and flexibity, and found I was very strong in some areas and very weak in other areas. Its just a matter of perservering, good news is you can lift your knee some.

    Hi Daywalker.

It is such a big effort for that muscle to lift anything - I couldn't for weeks - standing exercises were no problem .... I took/take it very slowly as I have experienced many so called set-backs -

so relax into it - everything is still so fragile -

    big warm hug

    renee
