Hip vulnerability to colf/flu infection

Hi, I had a TLHR 6 months ago; & am concerned that my new hip still feels numb, & sometimes a wee bit painful.

However ~ my lungs have been seriouslyt damaged by smoke inhalation a couple of times over the years; & so I've been receiving the free NHS 'flu' jab since before I reached 65 (now 67). I've been delighted that I haven't had any serious 'flu' . or even a heavy cold, since; until today...  I now ache in every single joint, feel mildly nauseous, but am particularly worried that the infection may spread to my new hip.  Does any one know if there's still a danger of this, 6 months post op?

Cheers, John Anderson

One would think that at 6 months you are well past any danger of infection carried to the joint. It must be that the tissues have healed sufficiently and that there remain no open vulnerable areas and the prosthesis is well and truly wrapped in place. I know what I would be doing, using h202 solution for ENT by spraying 1-2% in ear canal. Been doing that for decades and never had anything remotely like cold or flu. The first sign of a sniffle  or f anyone around me sneezes or coughs I spray around me and inhale;  carry pen type aerosol everywhere. Also use as mouthwash, the food grade 1% which I swallow. Dentist astonished at gum health. Check it out. Natures little miracle.

    Hi RossshireBuff,

From personal experience I was in the safe zone by 6 months. I suffer upper and lower respiratory infections several times a year. I have severe asthma and COPD without ever smoking. I had two THR's and my respiratory infections do not spread to my hips. The safe zone might be sooner too, but I do not know for sure.

As far as numbness, that sounds normal for it takes a full year to fully heal and sometimes numbness can stay.

The pain in your hip...I do not know, but I do know that when the weather changes mine ache.

Go check out your lungs and report your hip symptoms just to be safe.

    Good luck!

Hi John, sorry to hear you now feel so unwell. You have other things going on with your health and I believe it is impossible for people to advise you here. Get yourself checked out by the doc. Better to be safe than sorry right? Good luck and hope you feel better soon.

I was told by my OS at my last consultation, that there is a risk forever as it is a replacement, it was mu 6 month check up.  Like Sue said go to Gp to get it checked, but the flu is a virus and not bacterial.  I hope you feel better soon.
