Hi All

I am 6 week post op tommorrow and I am still finding my operated leg very weak, i can walk with one crutch but I have no chance without. Almost all my range of movement is back and I am pain free, i can sleep for england (at last) I really really didn't function on no sleep. are there any tips or hints you lovely lot can give me???? I dont know where i'd be without you lot, you've been my anchor in a very stormy journey.

I know I'm not a patient patient LOL

hugs to all

Kim

    Hi Kim.

Are you anterior or posterior? It may be that if you are posterior, the muscles will take longer to strengthen due to being cut.

There are some gentle exercises you can do to help strengthen your leg and of course it all takes time. Six weeks isn't long at all and the fact that you are sleeping well will be beneficial to the healing process.

Take it easy and I know it will improve over time.

I was much the same. Downloaded pocket physio, found it useful. Requested physio via sympathetic GP, hydrotherapy also. Lots of useful exercises on line, particularly uk bus hospital sites. Keep doing exercises, bum clenches help

    Hi Kim,

I am 6 weeks post op today and just want you to know I am back on my cane, was off it for 2-3 weeks with a bad limp that it hurt my back so much. So back using a cane, operatred leg maybe 60% in strenght. Without a PK cannot do the difficult standing exercises.  I am working ( desk work) full time but totally exhausted, don't log on to the forum much anymore as I don't feel I have anything to add, I guess I am depressed. Just wanted you to know others at 6 weeks may be right where you are smile Good range of motion, not great strenght. I know I do not do my exercises as much as I used to I pay dearly trying to find balance, ( both types).  I guess I saw your post for a reason. Wishing you a good day and a stronger leg to stand on xoxox Annette

      Hi Annette,

Ive been back at work a while now, i'm a desk jockey too and could'nt

stand my own company, I feel unsafe using a cane but I'm fine on one crutch. If I try to walk unaided it feels as though the burser muscle is rying to let go please don't withdraw from the forum its you lot that have kept me sane so let us do the same for you.

Look after yourself hun xxx we will both get there smile

Hi Annette. I had been wondering where you had been as you are 6 weeks post op like me. So sorry you feel depressed as you are normally so cheery. I bet you are shattered if you are back at work full time. I am still using my walking stick and waddle like a penguin without it. I have had down days as well but have had a lovely circle of friends that keep taking me out for cake and coffee! Do take care and keep in touch when you get down. Regards Poly

Thanks Polly, We have these one on ones calls with our Mgrs and today I had one with mine, and I cried a bit ( very unlike me) and within the hour she had me laughing and I tell you my mood turned around.  Went out for an early dinner with hubby and friends and still feel good.  You nd I are spot on, Dr's tomorrow (Wed) and surgery was 6 weeks today, and walk with cane or pengiun walk. This too shall pass right?! thnks for your support! All the best Annette

Hi Kim,  I was off my crutches by 6 weeks ( Demon Physio) and didnt use a stick but ask me to stand on one leg and I lasted 10 seconds at my check up, however i am now one year on and what has helped me is getting back to the gym. There was a great glute machine which really helped me to strengthen my muscles that  with the bike and cross trainer. I didnt go to the gym for 3 months though as i was scared of disclocation. I was posterior. Muscles take up to 2 years to heal. Glad you are pain free I had nerve damage but that has all resolved. Bonus for me is that a part of my scar doc said would never get feeling back in, came back to life when i was doing aqua zumba a couple of weeks ago. My friend said whats the matter with you, as i was jumping around but not to the exercise and lifting he edge of my cozzy up. i said i've got feeling back in the top bit of my scar. We all heal at different rates. I also did the post op exercises 3 times a day no matter how much it hurt. I am not a patient patient but this op taught me to be. Good luck with your recovery xx

      Hi,

I've not had any physio so that could account for my lack of muscle tone

I have been doing my excersises but my failing is on the outside of my hip around the scar, sadly I will never be able to do any Zumba i am afraid I have no rhythm smile I bought the game for the WII and nearly did myself a mischief.

Kim you dont need rhythm. Me and my mate laugh were often going in the wring direction. I got 6 weeks at a lower limb class at my local hospital too. It was great exercising with physio there to give you pointersand help you xx

I am 8 1/2 months post op for rthr posterior after a traumatic injury caused me to need surgery. I am STILL healing and strenghening my leg. Happy to report that my awful peg leg limp is FINALLY going away after I began doing stretching exercises for the tensor facia latte tendon (tfl) which my surgeon says was the only muscle violated in the posterior cut. I thought it was the gluteus medius that was causing my limp and thigh/ groin pain and he said no that the lateral cut takes g.m. down. You can find simple exercises for tfl online and it is helping so much. Would have never known unless I had emailed my surgeon about this. Hope this may help, but remember I only found exercises for tfl about a month ago. You may not be ready at 6 weeks to do these. Maybe ask your PT.

      Hi Cindy

I've just discovered that the TFI is the muscle that wass cut and thats just where i feel weak, I have my check tomorrow so i can ask then. I've not had any physio

      Thanks
