HIV and Generalized Anxiety Disorder

I am HIV positive and have GAD. Anxiety can be devastating; and it brings with it a mix of thoughts and emotions that turn your mind and your heart inside out. Yet in light of this, our desire to be cherished, loved and supported cannot be extinguished. They are an intrinsic part of being human, despite what our anxiety is telling us. We have a desire to experience the goodness of life with all of its joys and personal accomplishments, shared among family and friends. Anxiety does not (and should not) have the ability to deprive anyone of these things.

For many of us, the Covid-19 pandemic has been a time of greater anxiousness, but also of personal reflection and prioritizing the things that matter. It has been a period of adjustment and change, hopefully for the better with a greater mental and emotional peace.

Anxiety is tricky, and can have an overwhelming impact on our overall well-being. Yet, the joys, successes and happiness of life await each of us, so let us all embrace them!
