Hiya, I am 14 now but I had only just turned 12 when my left hip slipped. I had been getting pain in my left hip which got worse over a week. I crouched down to pick up my school bag at lunchtime when I got a really bad pain in my left hip, I stood up and tried to walk but I couldn't. I got rushed to the local hospital where my SUFE was not noticed and I was sent home in a great deal of pain with suspected pulled ligaments. The next day I was still in pain so my I was taken to a larger hospital where my SUFE was diagnosed. I had had an 'acute' slip. I had an operation the next day and came home on crutches after a week of being in hospital. I was on crutches for 7 weeks. 4 months later I had my right hip pinned just to be on the safe side, however i was allowed to weight bare. A few months later I was thinking about doing sports again and managed really well for about a year, apart from a slight limp. In the last few months I've been in a lot of pain and taking lots of painkillers, my consultant has basically told me that there is nothing that can be done apart from fixing my hip in place so I have next to no movement! My GP has referred me to another specialist who I see in September, hopefully he will be a bit more understanding and can suggest less drastic treatment.
My Mum found this site and it's been good to read the comments of other people with SUFE, my friends are quite understanding and joke about oiling my hip when I limp badly but it's nice to know there are other people who really know how it feels! I'd love to hear from anyone who would like to contact me. LOL XxXxX

Hi
I don't know if you are still suffering with your SUFE and am not sure how old this post is - as on the forum it just says over a year.
How are you getting on? My son is 13 (nearly 14) and had a SUFE 3 year's ago, he is still on crutches.
I started a facebook forum: SUFE Slipped Upper Femoral (Capital) Epiphysis if you are interested in joining. I am happy to contact/ring other Mum's who need help, advice, someone to talk to.
Best wishes
Ruth
