Hockey at 10 weeks post op

I feel as if I am ready to play hockey again.  I feel strong in my legs and think skating will help strengthen my legs even more.  Any opions on that?

    John,

I was going to ask if you meant ice hockey or field hockey until I saw the part about skating again.  Skating would probably be okay.  I'd be a little leary about playing ice hockey again though.  That's a tough sport!

Well John.   If you feel good enough to play hockey go for it.  Ive never played Hockey and at my age now (73) after hip replacement, I dont think im up for it.  Ha

Frenchy plays with us and he is 70, but he has also played his entire life.  At one point he was semi pro!

That's awesome!! Just be careful especially with falling as you don't want to hurt that new hip. I take it all hip precautions are lifted? Have fun just be careful. LD🤓🤠

Ask your doc first. Training on the ice before leaping straight into it. Icy can be a restriction and put the healing of ur implant and bone at risk. Take it slow at least a year of training and control on ice one slip or someone else knocking you down could cause a dislocation or a break. Be cautious and always check with your doctor. How many THR do you want. Take care of the one you have will last for years,

All depends on age , conditioning and risk.

I totally agree. Risks of fall, risks of twists, risks of being belted with a stick our another body.... I'd say 10 weeks, if ever, is way too early to be willing to run that sort of risk. Even I wouldn't try that's on my hip (almost four months post op), and as many people here will tell you, I'm generally up for trying most things with caution. Don't do anything without speaking to your surgeon.

What technigue of surgery did you have ?

I waited 5 months to play street hockey (indoors) same as ice but no skates, we run.

I was given the ok to play at 3 months.

As other have said, check with your surgeon !

    Where do you play ?

    Have fun biggrin

Surgery was from the backside.  Doc gave me ok to start skating and playing at 16 weeks.  I play in South Bend IN at the Ice Box.  Where do you play?

I had the same type of surgery.

I play in the Raleigh, NC area.  I probably wont play much longer, in my view, this type of hockey is harder on the body, no gliding !  The ppl I play against there ages range from mid 20's to mid 40's and I am 57.

If I am not happy with the way I am playing,  its time to stop.  I have played for over 40 yrs.

I have played in tourneys in Las Vegas, Ocean City, MD & Atlanta.

Its hard to give it up, at least I have other sports to play !

      Good Luck !!

I totally understand Rich.  I have always been a basketball player and I had to give that up, but I found hockey and I love it.  Good luck to you also.
