Holep aftermath

My 200 g prostate was recently reduced by the Holep procedure. The catheter was in for 5 days. It has now been out for 10 days and I'm wearing male depends. My urine is foul smelling. Any advice?

Have you been voiding since the catheter is out ? You need to void either naturally or by self catheterization, to clear the urine out. Is the smell from the urine or from the depends ? You should try to collect some in a collection bottle/container to see if it still smells. It sounds like you may have a urinary track infection. If you have a UTI with foul smelling urine, symptoms like itching burning and rise in temperature may follow. You should get your urine tested by your urologist or other doctor, and get them to prescribe an antibiotic. They can culture the urine in the meantime to find the right antibiotic for the particular bacteria, which may take 3 or 4 days. When the results come in you can then switch to the recommended antibiotic. Of course you should consult with a urologist, and follow his directions.

No problem voiding. Wearing depends for absorption. urologist doesn't see a problem, but when I change padded undergarments, it sure smells.

Four and one-half hour surgery to reduce the 200 g prostate. Two days in hospital with catheter followed by another four days at home with one. No pain, but a lot of discomfort. don't like the idea of wearing depends underwear, but not much of an alternative.

I’d prefer to have one procedure that offers the lowest re-op rate.
Where did you have yours done?
Glad to know you’re not in pain!
I hope you have a fast and comfortable recovery.
Let us know about your urine.

After my Holep, I'm not sure there's anything left to operate on! My procedure was performed at the University of Kansas Health Center. urine is clearing up, but still smells. Lack of comfort is due to having to wear the damn depends, all else is going well. The Holep was the 4th procedure done to my prostate over a 22 year period. I had micro-wave, "green light", TURP, and finally Holep. I was told the TLURP couldn't be completed due to build-up of scar tissue over the years. I'd suggest you go with the Holep. Good luck!

Thanks for the suggestion. If anything, I've been drinking more water that before the procedures. I think it will take care of itself in time.
