im 6 days post op and home since last night. It was more challenging than I thought to be honest. Awful nausea from the tablets and having problems sitting comfortably on the raised toilet seat. Any tips? I've had the right side done

Hi Catrin glad it's over for you . It's bound to be sore . Will be for a while . Unfortunately you will have to put up with the toilet perhaps you could find a padded seat to put on top . I had my 6 week check up yesterday . Dr said the pain I am having is normal and could take some time but I am much better than I was . Give yourself time and take afternoon naps . The tiredness really hits you . Good luck

Thanks at least I know it's not just me that finds it awkward. I'm very tired and still sleeping loads. Hopefully tomorrow will be a little better again

When I went to joint school before my op the nurse said not to think I am not much better today than I was yesterday but think I am much better than I was this time last week . It does work . Don't forget to rest !

It is challenging Catrin, but it does get easier. Each week you will look back and realise you have progressed. There are ups and downs bright days and blue days but it will be worth it. I am nearly four weeks post op and all is good.  It will be for you too. Good luck xx

Hi! Me home just 2 days only from Right Hip Op, but gosh its gonna be an interesting journey. Stairs at home twice as steep as the hospital testing, and two flights as well!

Luckily no nausea. Hate the raised toilet seat - esp as not designed for blokes!! Everyone on this site is friendly and says hang in there and it WILL get better. I really hope they are right and look forward to chatting to you especially as we are both in first week post op!

As time goes by you will feel more relaxed and at ease to the changes.  I am now 3 weeks post op.  Yes the leg (I had the left hip done) still needs a helping hand into bed at night as it is very heavy.  I cannot sleep except sitting up as lying flat is not comfortable so try to mimic the hospital beds with plenty of pillows.

Listen to your body when you are tired rest and then your body will say that it could do with moving around, each day I have got stronger.  It is a life changing thing mentally to get used to a new limb.  At the moment I cant imagine being able to walk normally again but know that I will but only with patience and time.  Hope that this helps.

Hi Catrin, 11 days post op and came home on post op day 2. I think the nausea (and constipation) was probably the worst part of the experience for me on post op days 3 and 4. Once that subsided I felt stronger again and ready fot the challenge of the excercises. Raised toilet was never mentioned to me so I am just using a standard seat and using the window sill to lever myself up and down. Stick with it and you feel a little stronger each day and if you can't sleep all through the night sit up and read and take a nap during the day to catch up.

I found the raised toilet seat very uncomfortable at first, I had right hip done too, but as you get used to it and when the dressing is off, it becomes much more comfortable, so stick with it.  I couldn't wait to get rid of it though and then when I did I missed it!
