Post op 8week. What therapys are people using at home? My friend has a Low Level Lazer Therapy. My physio uses an ultrasound machine to loose up my knee and I have more mobility after 10 mins on the machine.

I an based in NI, we are not offered any physio after the op other than the 3 days whilst in hospital going through the exercises and learning to walk on the crutches. Has your physio been supplied through NHS?

I was cautioned by both the surgeon and physio people. In each case they say that ultrasound should NOT be used for total knee replacements as it weakens the matrix of cement used for the plastic spacer between the metal joint. In the long run it may iduce an early replacement of the artificial knee. Simple exercises, ice and elevation I believe are the most common therapys used. Pool therapy is highly recommended and personally I found the exercise bike to be trump all other exercises hands down.

I used the exercise bike until three weeks before my right TKR op.  Had left one done 7 years ago and although it took me nearly 6 months to bend the knee fully, the exercise bike was the best therapy and I can't wait to get back to it.  Only had the op 5th March..first physio Tuesday afternoon.
