hoovering

hi all

I'm now in my 6th week of recovery and my stairs carpet is winding me up big time. Other half been good but just seems to keep missing the stairs as obviously looks too much like hard work.  Do you think it would be ok to do with nozzle part of henry hoover rather than the forwards and backwards motion and carry the actual hoover up and down the stairs once???

Hi. As long as you feel you are up to it and you're not actually lifting henry up the stairs. You can try and do using arm muscles not too much on moving stomach. I'm 1 week post op and the bathroom drove me insane so I cleaned it and although tired and achy I was ok (ok I didn't do proper scrub on bath, floor etc). Hubby good and hoovering, cooking and washing ok but cant see what I see like dust on surfaces. He didnt notice that it had been done either so definitely doesn't see things wink and I dearnt point things out either! Only you can know how you feel just take care and stop if it doesn't feel right xx

ha ha ha, i'm sure men are born with dust filters in their eyes as mines the same, never sees dust and never notices when the dust fairy has been either.  Luckily a couple of good friends were taking it in turns in first 2 weeks to clean my bathroom and do my hoovering etc but in third week i told them not to as they were helping him get out of it lol. We have 3 cats and their favourite place to sleep in on the stairs, oh and they don't move either so that was fun in first week.

I'm going to give it a go and if i get tired i'll just stop.  I'm feeling so much better and only got one more week off work so got to get back into doing the housework properly i suppose.

Hi I'm 1 week post op and it is so foreign to me not to be doing, so starting to have a quiet potter but no lifting, completely understand, yes we are all realising that our men only do the obvious very frustrating! I am texting mine from the bedroom to ask for little jobs, so making it funny, he is also being graded daily, food is 8+ support 7+ cleaning a poor 4.

We are making the best of it, can wait for my daughter to arrive to put the cleaner around properly

love it o all Ann x

When mine was cooking he was insisting i compliment him on everything from serving to taste to loading dishwasher and i went with it for a little while but then blew and stated that previous to these 2 weeks i had done this every day for him for 15 years ish with no hint of asking for his thanks as it was just how it was etc etc as we both work but me not quite as many hours so was always home first.

He does make me laugh, we are both on slimming world as well and he even insists we lost more weight the weeks he cooked.  Can't live without him but can't kill him either lol.

I have hoovered the stairs yaye. They look very nice. No pain just a little pulling as you don't realise how much of your body the stomach muscles work with.

Wow I'm impressed with all of you...I'm 4 weeks out from having an ovary and tubes removed and still get tired just drying my hair! Thankfully my husband doesn't notice dust either!

Yesterday I went on a de-cluttering rampage and lifted more than I should have. 😖. So today I will treat myself to doing absolutely no cleaning! Take care all!

I don't know what i've done right/wrong but i've not had any tiredness at all. i get up at 7am and go to bed about 11.30pm and not had one nap all the way along.  I think it may be because i wasn't ill before op as pills were squashing all my problems.  I'm also a great believer in pushing myself lots (sometimes too much) and i'm back on my cross trainer from week 4 doing a couple of miles every other day. Its so strange how all our recoveries are different isn't it. I really feel for the ladies on here that haven't been so lucky with their recoveries and have had infections etc.

    Hi Neverstaysstill

He! he! I had to laugh you really are eager to get back into it all aren't you! rolleyes You will get away with the nozzle part on the stairs but you must not carry Henry up or down the stairs or lift him any which way, hubby will have to do the actual lifting of Henry.  Between the 6th and 8th weeks is the danger 2 weeks because you start to test what you can get away with.  You can still do damage to your internal healing at this stage.  Just try and hang on a few more weeks!  Wear sunglasses indoors it is amazing what you don't notice that way!

    Love

Don't lift Henry up the stairs do as many stairs as you can from the bottom, get hubby to carry hoover upstairs, then do the rest from the top, I couldn't hoover at 6 weeks and even at 5 months (now) post op I still feel the tugging in my tummy when I hoover.

    Take care

    Phoebe.

I felt the tugging but thought that was good healing, hubby wasn't there and i used a smaller hoover that mother-in-law gave us rather than henry which only weighs about 5lbs so rested it on each step on way down and then back up again (keep hoover in box room).  I feel fine, i drove for first time today and went walking round town and Tesco shopping on my own, the feeing of independence and freedom was amazing

Glad you managed ok, my consultant said at my 6 week check that I should get hubby to do the hoovering for at least 5 years lol! Well I think he actually moved my Henry Hoover ONCE, I think he thought it was just a smiley face on wheels, I used a carpet sweeper for a while and did the stairs with a stiff hand brush.

Glad you are driving, I was behind the wheel at 3 weeks I did some emergency stops in our drive first though then only pootled around the village, you don't realise how much you miss driving until you can't.

      Keep well

That's great news. You are well on your way to recovery smile I made mistake of thinking I could do things at 1 week and started bleeding but have learned my lesson and taking it easy today. Have to admit I'm bored out of my skull though. Any ideas of how to get through early weeks?

candy crush, computer in general and this forum, magazines, books (got bored of tv very quickly, only so much Jeremy Kyle you can put up with), walks, watching hubby taking soooo long to do what takes me 5 mins lol (naughty but fun to watch) and friends popping round and making me laugh and in last couple of weeks & i became a lady that lunches and has coffee out in nice places again thanks to my friends.

I pottered as well in house and in garden and did some potting on and watering, hubby move the hose and chair around for me.

Yes im on level 763 on candy crush now lol! Doing the same sort of things. Think I need to venture further afield than walking around the garden as I think thats whats driving me insane. Thank you wink
