Hoping oxygen will help my mother..

Due to being so breathless, my mother is unable to do very much at all. Her Dr made a home visit last week, we asked about having oxygen in the home. This will be put in place tomorrow.
Unfortunately, my mother has a build up of fluid, it was only the feet and ankles but now her stomach and midriff are quite swollen, this of course is causing her to be uncomfortable. Her water tablets were increased a couple weeks ago, but has not made any difference.
I am hoping that the extra oxygen will my mother in as much as enabling her to be a little more mobile.
One thing my mother said to me about 4 months ago was, 'As long as I can do my baking and housework, I'm happy'

I am sorry your mum is having these problems. Is there anyway they can drain the fluid from her stomach at all? the reason I ask is when I was in having my biopsy I was talking to a lady oposite me who was having this done and they drained quite a lot of fluid from her. It may not be an option but if you haven't already done so it may be worth asking the question. How determined that generation are, when my nan wasn't well (she had cancer) we got oxygen for her and she got upset because my mum was doing everything for her so we got a really long pipe on the oxygen machine and she was able to go in the garden and peg out the washing. It was such a small thing but it made her so happy. Something to be aware of with oxygen is your mum more than likely won't come off it as the body becomes relient on it but my experience of this (sadly I have a lot) it helps and allows a few more things to be done. Your mum could sit on a chair to do her baking as there are many ways of adapting a situation and she will get her wish to bake again. Tell her happy baking from me xx

Well I'm rather late replying sorry.
I contacted my mother's Dr last Thursday because I was so concerned about her breathing and swelling. She was admitted into hospital that day. She is still there. The oxygen wasn't helping. An xray showed fluid also around the lungs. Due to the fact she wasn't passing any water, a catheter was used, this seems to be helping a bit.
The main concern now is her ongoing breathlessness, the drs had a meeting today, they came up with a possibility of there being a clot, this is not certain though.

I am so sorry your mum has taken a turn for the worse and I do hope they sort out the fluid on her lungs if nothing to make her a bit more comfortable and ease her breathing, it must be very frightening for her not be able to breath properly and equally scary for you having to watch this.
Please keep me updated I send you both my love. xx
