Hormone replacement therapy

I have read that bio-identical hormone replacement therapy is safer than the standard DRT which is derived from the urine of pregnanat horses.  However people interested in this therapy need to be aware that they must still take a version manufactured by a trusted pharmaceutical firm.  Apparently there is something going the rounds now where the so-called bio-identical hormones are compounded in a pharmacy.  This could be extremely risky, worse than standard HRT.  I don't know what countries might be affected, the warning I read was in newsletter originating in the US, so hopefully it isn't even something most of us need to worry about, but thought I should bring up the topic as it has been mentioned a few times lately by those of us interested in finding safe ways to improve our bone density.

Even some of us men need hrt as we get older. The medical profession have now got low hormone levels, particularly testosterone, down as the main cause of my osterporosis, but only found this out recently!

I suggest that your doctor needs to get up to date with what actually happens. Just like for women, the lack of appropriate hormones causes the calcium to be disolved and not replaced. Since this will occur naturally with age, any additional loss through trauma will accelerate the calcium loss.

I suspect that in this case, the women are in a vast majority and shout the loudest, so mostly, the male case is pushed into the background but IT REALLY DOES EXIST.

I agree.  I'm really wondering if this should have been taken into account when I was diagnosed 24 years ago.  No way I can know, but at least now I feel like I have another avenue to try!!!
