Jenna it really depend on what pain you mean? Take ibroprofen and dab cold used tea bags on the sores if that's any good. Also just try to sit in a luke warm salt bath for a few hours and let them soak but make sure they are dry when you get out. It may well sting for a while but its work it. Sleep with as little clothes to restrict the area and give them plenty of air eg. Sleep with legs open.

Also keeping it lubricated helps a lot ..

A&D ointment and vaseline was my best friends ..

It will all be over before you know it..

It's to late to try and take suppressive medicine because it doesn't work during an outbreak . But after this one is over you should definitely consider it ...

Sounds like you have it genitally ?

    Type one or two. ?

Did you use vaselin on the open sores? Or where exactly did u use it at?..I'm sooooo scared to do anything I don't want to make them last longer. I put some on the ones that where stabbed over but would it help on the other ones?

Oh poor thing! I'm so sorry you're in pain, but I can tell you that pain will not be typical going forward. Your poor immune system has been totally caught by surprise, and on top of that it takes at least five days for your body to develop a serum level of acyclovir to adequately fight the virus. Until that happens, please try and treat yourself kindly, get plenty of sleep, take anti-inflammatories to reduce pressure on the sensitive nerves, and consider staying on a suppressive dose of about 200 mg a day going forward. Otherwise your body will always be playing catch up to the virus, which is not what you want.
