    Hi Gillian

All I can suggest is what the Drs will tell you and that is to avoid the trigger foods and drink,

Alcohol, coffee, carbonated drinks, spicy food, tomatoes, try to not have too much dairy ie milk. cheese. chocolate. Boring I know but will eventually give some relief. Also raising your bed at the head end helps.

    All the best

I have same symptoms as you have. Lump and tight feeling since last week after i ate very spicy food for two days, and i have been taking Pantoprazole for almost 10 days, but symptoms are still there, the lump feeling is strong during evening. My GERD symptoms started one and half years ago, and i had EGD done last March, the result confirmed doctor's guessing which was GERD and esophagitis. Then doctor gave me pantoprazole for three months because i told doctor that esomeprazole and omeprazole didn't work for me, then it worked! I was symptoms free for a long time despite some recurrences during last year which i just took pantoprazole to ease the symptoms. But for this time, it seems that pantoprazole doesn't work for now. but i'm still taking it.

What type of PPI are you taking? Have you avoid certain food that may trigger your symptoms? I saw my doctor last Friday and she told me that just keep on pantoprazole for three months and avoid certain food. then the symptoms will go away.

You can try pantoprazole or esomeprazole. I have never tried lansoprazole, I'm not sure if the effect of lansoprazole is as good as panto or esome prazoles.but you have to keep on PPI for sure. and avoid certain food that can trigger your symptoms. I'm still on pantoprazole even i don't see obvious improvement. Have you done upper endoscopy in the past?

I see, i think that you don't need to have another EGD done again since you had one last year if the result was ok. Just keep on PPI.

I have done last March, and only saw esophagitis, my doctor told me on Friday that i don't need to have another done again.

But i already called my doctor this morning to order H.Pylori breath test for me again. I just want to make sure that i'm not re-infected.

The weird feeling and tightness in the throat was quite frequent in my case. I also had cardiac looking horrible pains diagnosed as esophagus spasm. All I can say is to keep up with doctor's recommendations and try to relax more as stress certainly plays a role with GERD conditions. I also found that the barium swallow I had and other tests did not seem to match my symptoms most of the time. One thing I have found to be of help are anti depressants which ease the pains and improve the tightness in the throat most of the time.

    Best of luck.
