Horrible Muscle Spasms!!

Posted , 11 users are following.

Ever since my dx of pmr, I've been experiencing. horrible muscle spasms, (and I do mean HORRIBLE!) in my back, my legs and even my abdomen! Is this yet another symptom of pmr or am I just NUTZZZ? (cuz that's how I'm feeling lately)! Ever since my dx, my symptoms have been growing expeditiously! Please tell me I'm not alone in this spasm business, or for that matter, the feeling of losing it!

Pred causes the body to lose magnesium and calcium through the kidneys and that upsets the balance with potassium - all of which can lead to cramps if they are low. Pred can also cause a feeling of being out of control. Speak to your doctor if it worries you.

Lynda I too have had severe cramps. Put it down to prednisone side effects.

Eileen is correct, if it's really so bad , speak with your GP..

I eat a lot of bananas which have a lot of potassium..

Ask your GP about potassium pills or eat more foods rich in potassium.

    Lynda,

I would strongly advise supplemental magnesium.   I used to have leg cramps so bad at night, my husband would have to help me out of bed to straighten my legs out.  Since I've been taking between 400 and 800 mg.of magnesium per day in divided doses, it has gotten 90% better.

I have also heard that lactic acid helps (some drink pickle juice before bedtime).   I have never tried that myself.

take care and I hope you find some relief,

    Pam

I get them in my back, chest, and side ; and yes they are horrible. Thankfully, they don't last long.
