Horrible nasal infection (i think). Awful smell. No pain. Only left nostril. Happening for 2-3years.

About 2 or 3 years ago, while i was doing landscape work, i got some sort of nasal infection from HELL. It never hurts. Sometimes i become congested and can only breathe through my mouth, usually just at night. Every now and then when im bending over while working or if i keep my head in certain tilted positions ill get this horrible smelly mucus. sometimes its like water and drains out my nostril but most times its kinda like a thicker mucus that goes to my throat. If you put your finger on the center of the bridge of your nose then move it down the side of your nose towards your cheek thats the area of the sinus that i believe is being affected. This infection from the devil himself has basically ruined my social life. other people smell it and since i work as an installer in a lot of upper class homes its extremely embarassing. i always avoid being close to people, even my family. This has been going on steadily for atleast 2 years. Someone help. ive looked at other forums but none of them seem to be exactly like my situation. It doesnt seem to be getting worse though. Sometimes the smell isnt really THAT bad but other times its bad enough to knock a buzzard off a gut wagon. It does not make me nauseous or sick at all which suprises me because it seems like i should be dead based on how bad it seems. HELP.

You have obviously seen a doctor I would think. Is it perhaps a fungal infection. Doctor should offer you a scan, or camera inside nostrel. I have so ething similar, not smelly but conjested now for three years or more. I have ryhinitis I can only breath through my mouth. I presume your not in UK . You may nead a few weeks of either antibiotics for serious infection or fungal destroying medication.

    Hi,

it sure sounds like you have some infection somewhere, likely in your sinuses. And ooops reply suggesting fungal infection may jolly well be it.

For us who have had sinusitis and a surgery, the one contributor of bad smell in our noses are the scabs that formed after surgery. Since you haven't gotten a surgery, that cannot be it. Besides, those kind of smell is not apparent to people around us. So, that again cannot be it.

Here are a few things you may want to consider :

    - Start doing some saline wash. See if that helps to flush out some of those smelly mucous. Afterall, saline wash is good for general nasal health anyways so it's worth a try. If the nasal wash is able to wash away some infection that's not too deep inside sinuses, you may get by that way.

    - If saline wash still doesn't help flush that smelly mucous away, then you really may need to see an ENT. And when you do - insist on a thorough (3D) CT Scan. These will then show if your sinuses are infected or not. And if they are, then you can make decisions on the next move. Infection could be fungal, bacterial or viral.

    Hope the above helps.

    Cheers and all best!

OOOPS64, no i hav not seen a doctor. Ive had the infection for at least 2 years now. I live in Columbus, Ohio.

YPPP63334 - lol very true, i do have an obvious infection and i believe its in the 2 big sinus cavities on either side of the nose. Thanks you guys so much for the advice. Its sad but ive kinda got used to it lol. I'm already not a very social person, except at my job, so staying away from most people helps to a good extent. I only want it gone because i can tell that its affecting relations i have with others. I couldn't care less about the infection, i'm just putting how i makes others feel about me and how they see me before myself. But then again after years of swallowing all of that gunk its probably not good and i could get a serious sickness as a result of not having the infection taken care of.
