Horrible periods: How do I deal with leaks, long periods, super heavy flow, and (ew) giant clots?

Posted , 3 users are following.

Sorry this is kind of long but please help >.< basically, i'm only 13 and i only posted this because i feel like i desperately need help... my mom says i'm being overly dramatic (which is probably true) and i feel a little uncomfortable talking to her sooo

1) almost every night, i find a position to sleep in that minimizes my blood flow (and trust me i am up all freaking night, or at least until 1 am), then when morning comes, guess what? yes. it's a freaking blood bath that soaks through my sheets all the way to the matress. how do i fix morning leaks?

2) i've been on my period for over 2 months now -- two months -- and have been trying to convince myself it's normal. i don't think it's normal anymore. what do i do???

3) oh my god, the clots. they're disgusting. on my worst days, those icky, jello-y clumps of blood are actually as big as the pad. i'm dead serious and quite honestly, it's pretty scaring. how do i stop the clots?

4) last but not least, every time i move/stand up/breathe too loudly blood gushes (ewww) out of me like i'm a freaking waterfall of death. is there anyway to make it stop!?!?!?

Hi sorry you're having a bad time, have you been to doctor about it? They might be able to prescribe something to help. Often taking the contraceptive pill can help regulate periods, but I'm not sure if that is best because of your age. I'm sure if you asked your mum if you can go to the doctor about it, as if you say you're soaking through to the mattress she must know it is quite a lot of blood. Have you only recently started your period? As it can take a few years to settle down into a regular timeframe as well

The main thing about the pill is that it costs money, which is really something my family can't afford right now (despite the fact I know they'd do it anyway)... my mom has actually had to clean up the blood once which is pretty embarassing.

I talked about a menstrual cup yesterday, because even though I'm still new to this whole bleeding-like-you're-dying thing I feel like a cup would be way easier to manage than changing a pad every 30 minutes (which doesn't work at school and makes me really uncomfortable). Sorry about all the questions, but do you think a cup might help?

Finally (whew this is a lot sorry), in 8 days I'll have had my period for exactly a year... so maybe it is just that. I hope so!!

Thank you for your help smile

Yeah a menstrual cup may help, I've never used one but I have heard many people say they are really good. Yeah you may just have to be patient and wait for it to settle down for a while, and it sounds like a good idea to try different things to see what works best, like you have suggested the menstrual cup. You're welcome

Hi it sounds like me a few years ago. It sounds like you have uterine fibroids they are non cancerous growths in the uterus and make you bleed heavy long and clotty. You will need to go see a gynocologist they can give you meds to stop the flow but you may have to have surgery to remove the fibroids. I did. It's a quick in and out surgery if guy need it. Good luck.

Hi amelia I only just read your post, and I was shocked !  No one should be bleeding like you are either in length, heaviness or with such clotting, it isn't right but don't panic because I am sure the doctors can help you with this. You need to see someone and you definitely aren't being dramatic because this is extremely distressing for you. Please try and see a doctor yourself, if you are finding this difficult to do without involving your mum, I am sure there will be someone at your school a lady teacher you get on with ? who can put you in touch with health advisors. Or why not, alternatively, go to a walk in clinic and take a friend with you. As far as I am aware the contraceptive pill which is often used to treat period problems, is FREE . Any medication you receive personally will be free because of your age so don't listen to anyone telling you that it will cost your family or you anything because that is rubbish !  I am 45 and have been using a contraceptive pill and it is FREE!!!  Please go and see someone as soon as you can you will be so glad you did and then you can have your life back. Good luck x
