Horrid taste and sore palate on methotrexate. Anyone tried the other Dmards? Do they have the same?

Posted , 5 users are following.

B een on methotrexate nearly 5 months - in the last month I've developed a horrid taste in my mouth - metallic etc - very sore hard palate and horrid smell on my body.

I may be put on one of the other pill Dmards and wonder if others have tried others and found they had the same horrid mouth/taste/smell side effects.

Do biologics have the same side effects re taste and mouth?

Any help would be great.

Thanks

T.

Hi, I'm on methotrexate but lowest dose alongside biological... I get the horrible taste and a bad cough... First biological worked great but I did get a lot of infections, that was Simponi... Started inflectra two weeks ago and so far just nausea... Talk to your dmard nurse or consultant... Do u take folic acid before or after the methotrexate??

    Hi

Each person's body reacts a bit differently...what is a bother for one person may not even be noticed by another person.

Your body's adverse reaction to one medication does not mean it will react in the same way to a different drug in the same class.

Many medications taken by mouth are also available in injectable form. Sometimes a reduction of the dose relieves the adverse reaction. Other times the solution is to take a lesser amount over more days...ask your physician.

    kind regards

Hi Tamsin. I am on Mtx the higher dose and I had the same nasty almost metalic taste in my mouth and the pain was relentless. Even my teeth ached.

I went to my gp and she diagnosed sjogrens syndrome. I was prescribed lozenges and a spray to counteract the dryness.

Sjogrens can be a side effect of RA.

My eyes were gritty and dry too and this was also put down to sjogrens. I got given the drops. The symptoms were eased but apparently sjogrens can dry out internal organs so it's worth checking out with your gp.
