Horrid throat condition

I've been suffering with some horrible throst symptoms. My throat will one minute feel really dry at the back of my nose where it meets my throat, just under my vocal chords in my trachea and then centrally in my chest. I also get severe tightness in my windpipe just under my vocal chords. It feels so bad that i feel like im gasping for air although i don't sound wheezy. I'm coughing frequently and also clearing my throat often. my throat muscles also ache and i always feel my jaw being tense. When i inhale air i feel the irritation more and it makes my throat drier and it causes me to cough more. Sometimes there will be a feeling of alot of phlegm in my windpipe which is thick which i can't clear.

I've been to the doctors many of times where i've had a camera put in my throat, a upper gi endoscopy, a barium swallow test, blood tests, peak flow test on lungs. I've had different guesses to what it could be with the latest one post nasal drip caused by allergies. My nose hardly ever feels blocked and feels normal except for the dryness at the back. I've been prescribed nasal steroid which im 2 days into. My nose feels open, however my lungs and throat still feel tight. I've been getting really bad anxiety from all whats happening and i'm fed up with people saying it's all in my head. No matter how many times people say i'm fine, i feel something very bad is happening. I just don't feel anywhere near right.

Is anyone else getting this irritation or has suffere from it before? What did you do to soothe the dryness in the throat and lungs. I do breathe in steam when i can, however it doesn't feel to be making much difference.

Thanks

Chris

    Hi

I've been desperate to find something on the internet that describes exactly how I've been feeling the past couple of months on your description is spot on. I've had appointment with doctor and blood tests just been taken to check thyroid etc. However trying to explain this uncomfortable feeling that tends comes and goes in varying ways every few days is so strange and hard to explain to anyone. I don't have swollen glands or even sore throat just this incredible over dryness through general breathing that makes me want to cough and clear throat. Shortly to go back to my GP so if anyone has a condition to suggest etc it would need most helpful please.

      Hi Stacey,

You’re probably not on here anymore but did you ever find relief? I have been suffering with extreme dry throat that comes and goes for about two months and nothing I do will help!! I’m getting really anxious over this- as I am 25 and trying to  focus on life but just can’t seem to shake this! Did you find anything that helped? Did it resolve itself? Thank you

    Hi Chris

I have suffered for over 2 years with globus, and really suffer with the dry throat. I've tried guavas on which helps for a mo, but otherwise haven't found anything that will help, apart from drinking loads!!

I do wish it would settle, but it doesn't seem to, I've tried May doctors but with not much success, I'm hoping I will wake up one day and it's gone, but feel your pain.

    Kind regards

    Lia

Just wanted to reply to this again, I was diagnosed with Globus nearly a year ago and still have it, sometimes it feels like I have something dangling in the back of my throat and the throat gets really tight and dry, I have tried to live with it and drinking ice cold water helps but for only so long.

I do notice that the more anxious I get the worse the Globus gets but have I got rid of it completely NO......maybe one day it will just disappear.....

Wow I need to let my doctor check me because this just started about a week ago and it's driving me batty and causing anxiety which makes it worse. It's dry and feels like a glob of something is in your throats between the throats and nose. It's scary because I have asthma.

    Hi Chris,

like many on this post, I habeen going through the same symptoms and some doctors seem to be familiar with this, however, the cure for this, seems to be only in our mind.

in the mean time while I learn to control my level of anxiety, I have found that inhalate boiling water every evening helps to ease the dry feeling at the back of my trout.

also the strongest chewable mint pack to help you relax all the afected area through out the day.

I hope this helps and Ilook forward to hear from any one who has managed to overcome this horrible problem.

    I wish all the best

No you're not going crazy. I have the same thing happening to me it started about a week ago. I have no cold or anything, but I do get nasal dripping with the change of weather. However, I don't feel any drips yet my nose seems a bit dry at times, but everything you said I have and I feel anxiety as well it's scary to say the least.

I'm interested to find out if you have gotten a diagnosis yet. I havE THE EXACT same symptoms and have no quality of life and I'm only 30 :-( I have been to Cleveland Clinic and multiple other specialists to no avail. At my wits end.

I forgot to add that I also get the jaw tightness on and off several times per week. It has to be tied into whatever we are dealing with. I have asthma-like symptoms and a "sticking" of my windpipe but yet ENT nor pulmonology can put their heads together and figure it out. Unbelieveable...

I have been struggling with globus  sensation since October 2017. I’ve seen to two ENT doctors, an endocrinologist, I’ve had a CT scan, and MRI ,  an endoscopy and several biopsies.  What I have been doing that seems to be helping me is very deep trigger massage, and for two days now I have been drinking lemon water, and eating absolutely no carbs or sugar. I do take lorazepam  before I go to bed. Also for two days now I’ve been rubbing lavender essential oil‘s on the outside of my neck and massage my esophagus. For some reason eating no carbs and sugar seems to do the trick. It’s not going away but it makes it tolerable. Otherwise yes this is awful.

I have been dealing with this since 1994 Chris , it started with pain over my left chest and then I felt crackling sounds in my chest like bones as time went on it went to my throat it's horrible I feel like I'm suffocating the doctors think I'm crazy and people too. It's the most scariest most horrible feeling . Please reschedule out so we can discuss this further .I thought I was the only one going threw this .
