After a year Penny I would not think you would have a problem, presuming the past year has gone okay without problems.

I'm having my hip redone in a month or so, they say the hip is placed to high, I have a massive amount of hamstring issues with this, but I will try the riding anyway thanks for the reply 😊

Sorry to hear you are having the hip redone so soon Penny. Hip placed too high? It makes you wonder about some surgeon's, with the amount of hips they replace, they should be able to get the level. Good luck for the next op.

Wow, I got the surgery precisely to engage in activities again ...

Yes, horseback ridng? ... After a year? ... of course! ... The device is solid, quite solid ... you would only hurt the device through a really bad fall ... but the same kind of fall that would hurt your natural hip ...

So your calculation can be: with your natural hip, would you do this? .... if yes, proceed. Maybe in the first three months (while the device is bonding with bone) you avoid possible falls, like riding bike for long distance, etc ... But after that, you're good to go!

One top surgeon I consulted thinks the device is in fact more robust than our original hip.

Now, I'm assuming you're not in pain and having serious pain and stability issues. Absent those problems, enjoy to your heart's delight. I love riding. Haven't done it in a while ... Looking forward to trail riding at some point.

Hi Robert thanks for the reply, generally my hip is OK, I do get groin pain and am having it redone soon due to the hip sitting to high, but generally I'm OK just have a limp 😊

I'd say definitely go for it. I have my own horse and was desparite to get back riding. I was told by my consultant it would be OK after 12 weeks as long as I don't fall off!!

Now 2 years later I'm riding better than ever before, including fast rides. Enjoy.

    Penny,

So sorry to hear you are going to have a revision ... so you do have some discomfort. Just take some paid meds with you ... in case the hip and leg scream at you after the ride.
