      Hi Eileen,

Sorry you have had a bad day, hope tomorrow is better.  My pain has improved I had spent the last 3 weeks indoors frightened to go out because the pain got so bad when walking.  I see a councillor for my anxiety and he has given me some tips to cope with the pain when going out.  We went to look after our grandson aged 2 for the afternoon yesterday and I got him to bring his toys up onto the sofa so I could play with him and there is no way I could sit on the floor.  It was nice to go out but I was tired last night.  I am going to try and get my hair done next week, and maybe go to lunch with old work friends.  Just hope the pain does not come back with a venegance.  Like you I take a list for gp/hospital.  I usually have so much to ask.

Will let you know what happens.  Take care

      Hi Carol

It's good you saw a councillor......about 5 yrs ago a parked car started as I walked behind it, reversed, knocked me down and went over my ankle then drove over it as well as reversing over it

For a long time going into car parks was a big NO NO...well walking through them....if I was passing a parked car even if there was no one in it I was terrified. I went to a psychologist and she was great ....gave me some tips as well. I have kypho scoliosis which is a C shaped curve in your spine and a slight hump on your back. Every time I passed a mirror {in a shopping centre} I shuddered when I saw myself side view she also gave me some tips about that as well. Its good to get help isnt it.

Let me know how your tips work. After my THR it was drivingwith me...took 2 extra weeks after the 6 weeks that I wasn't allowed to drive before I got behind the wheelbiggrin

If I sat on the floor I would never get up again   LOL

I go to yoga but one lady sits and I stand the rest are on their mats so she does slightly alternative moves for us

      Take care

      Love

Hi Eileen, That must have been awful for you, but it is good you got some help to deal with it.  Mine is a CBT councillor I suffer from general anxiety and health anxiety about 3/4 years now.  I have always been a worrier won't completely change my personality, but learning to deal with it. My councillor thinks that I am having problems accepting getting older and health problems and restrictions that may bring.  This is really true.

I had got really down not going out.  The councillor suggested when I complained I could not walk round the supermarket for weekly shop as half way round I would be in agony, so stopped going and my husband

went on his own, that I should go and stop when I had had enough but before pain gets bad and go into the cafe and have a cuppa and wait.

It does make sense as at least I would be out not stuck at home.  It seems simple advice but I never looked at it in this way.  What do you do for shopping? I do sometimes do it on line.  I also sing in a rock/pop choir which I love.  I can sit at rehearsal and just stand when I can but

I have felt that I can't do any of the gigs they do because I would need to stand for upto a hour or more. I knew that I would be able to sit because the other members have said so but once again in my mind if I could not do it properly then I should not go and I really want to go sing at some of them.  When I go back to rehearsals next month I will ask the leader

if I could sit at any gig we do.  You can see where I am coming from

I thought everything had to be all or nothing.  Sorry to go on but did not quite know how to explain what I mean. Hope your weekend is good the weather seems to be getting a bit better here (Greater London).

      Take care Carol

      Hi Carol

I understand how sitting must make you feel "down" I went throught that at the same as time as all the rest......not staying in all the time but if I was supposed to go out in the morning I just couldnt face it. Not quite as bad later on. It was a vicious circle.....I was "down" so didnt go out....didnt go out so that made me worse

As for my shopping "weekly/monthly" I go with Peter and he does it.

Apart from the THR I cant carry heavy things because of scoliosis and having 2 crutches doesnt helpwink We get to the supermarket and he does the shopping and I wsander and look at things {clothes/make up and bits and pieces } and meet him at a set time on a chair. Our supermarket coffee places arent great LOL so if there is a chair I'll wait there and we go for coffee in Starbucks/Costa or somewhere like that afterwards.wink

How I got to a psychologist was I was sent to a pain clinic by the back specialist and one of the things they did was get this psychologist to ring me.....after a 30 min chat on the phone she said it might help if we had a couple of appointments.

      One of the things she told me to do {about self esteem/scoliosis}

Was go to the Metro Centre and get a coffee.....no need to twist my arm to do thatbiggrin aand sit and "people watch"...look at people and see how many of them have something wrong with them. Stick, crutches, scooter, bent, limping etcc.....  then think if I wasnt looking for this would I notice that person....probably not.....and if I di notice them what would I think....nothing!!!! As you say simple advice but you dont look at it that way.

As for getting older....one person told me once.....old age is 15 years older than the age you are presently  LOL  I liked that biggrin

Going back to shopping......I go into our Metro centre during the week with just crutches {I have a car} and see how far I can walk {not very LOL} but once a week I hire a scooter there and relax and go from one end of it to the other....not grocery shopping.....just Boots/superdrug,clothes , etcwindow shopping.....even if I buy nothing but a magazine I enjoy that.

I envy you....I cant sing....I'm tone deaf  LOL  LOL

I admit I couldnt stand for an hour or more....we do have to compromise.

I go to yoga......but no way could I be on a yoga mat LOL if I got down I would never get up again so I do it standing or one or two {like balancing on one foot....with a hip fracture I cant do that} I sit..there are a couple of people that do that and the tutor changes the exercises slightly.

So thats an "in between" for me....certainly not all.....but not nothing either if that makes sense.

You talk about going on  LOL  LOL

Mine has been long enough......I hope the weekend is at least dry....hard to tell at the minute. {North East} its just after 8am.

      Take care

      Eileen
