I have reduced prednisone from 30mg to 6mg in 2 1/2 years. Now I am having hot flashes in the early morning nearly every time I change my position in bed. Does this seen normal?

It doesn't seem normal, especially if you are a MR.

Does Prednisone have different side effects in male and female?

No more than they vary between different patients anyway. I think she meant the sweats aren't normal in men as they don't go through the menopause which is the primary cause at out age!!!

Night sweats are commonly associated with low adrenal function - and you are now in the realm of your adrenal function needing to restart to top up the oral dose of pred to the amount of corticosteroid your body requires to function.
But the return of night sweats may also be a sign you are are no longer at a high enough dose to manage the PMR inflammation.

The night sweats started more often when I went to 7mg. Now that I went to 6 they are worse.

I was on 7mg for 24 days and I have been on 6 mg for 5 days. I am not having any pain in my neck, shoulders or hip area, in fact I have no PMR pain. My back was hurting real bad last evening so I took 1 strong pain killer and it stopped the pain so I figured it could not be PMR. I have real bad osteoarthritis in my upper back and in my neck and shoulders. Sometimes when I hurt I get worried it is the PMR pain but when this happens I take a pain killer and if the pain stops then I know it is osteoarthritis.

Before I was diagnosed, Ibuprofen stopped most of the pain but not enough to eliminate the stiffness and I was sweating a lot at night, enough to change clothes. Recently, I began sweating again, stopped my 1/2 mg reduction, and upped it 1/2 mg to 5. A month or two later, I am again attempting the 1/2 mg reduction. I have osteoporosis, bad hip, and nursing a still good knee. I would not recommend taking pain killers with prednisone. I am in my fifth year of PMR.

I had shoulder surgery and the doctor prescribed Oxycodone for pain. I had Shingles and the doctor prescribed Oxycodone for pain. I took Oxycodone for a total of 45 days. I didn't have any negative side effects.
Why would 2 different doctors prescribe the pain killer Oxycodone and both doctors knew I was taking prednisone for PMR, if there would be a chance of negative side effects?

I was thinking of Ibuprofen, asprin, blood thinners, etc. I was offered Oxycodone for pain during knee replacement but took Tylenol instead. Oxycodone gave me nightmares and I did not want to get addicted.

Oxycodone is a drug with terrible side effects. I hate it but it sure did help me cope with the pain.

Oxycodone can be taken with pred, it isn't an NSAID, it is an opiod. NSAIDs and pred can both lead to gastric problems on their own and if taken together it results in an increased risk of gastric irritation and, potentially, bleeding. Gastric bleeds aren't something to be played with.

I had terrible nights sweats before pred. and now very during "flairs". But then again dr. are questioning my PMR diagnoses at the moment.
