hi , if you have seen my most recent post you will know i have devopled a intense fear of brain ameobas from water !
about last night I had some friends over and we were all in my hot tub my partner maintains the spa with the chemicals needed but for some reason even though we haven’t changed anything recently the test strips have shown low bro mine levels. I had a sudden rush of panic this morning when I realised a hot tub is the perfect breeding ground for these bacteria is. Can someone please confirm to me that even if my hot Tub was slightly infected it will only be an issue if I inhaled the water through my nose and therefore tasted it and tub was slightly infected it will only be an issue if I inhaled the water through my nose and therefore tasted it in the back of my throat . my kids play in this water which im now terrified of but myself , partner and friends only sit . in saying this if anyone has ever sat in a spa with jets it really does feel like the bubbles go everywhere .
im totally paranoid but dont want to worry over the next few weeks for symptoms .

You need to inhale the water to allow them to effect you and as you were told before, if you felt so strongly that its not safe for you to go in the pool then surely you wouldn't let the children go in especially if their playing in it.
I personally dont think theirs any real concern so long as you care for the pool as per instructions and use the correct chemicals to disinfect the water the correct way
Obviously this is becoming a real issue for you so you should go and see your primary health practitioner and discuss it, also you need to ring your water supplier and ask them they will know better than most, please don't let this ruin your life.
God bless

i know i sound like an awful nother dont i ?
my partner wont let me rub my anxiety on to the kids . he thinks im a nut so if i told them no spa while the levels are low it would cause a fight . i am seeking help this coming tuesday . its debilatating 😦
i understand the water has to be inhaled but if the amoebas are microscopic wouldnt little splashes of water which sometimes cant be helped getting in the nose be the same exact risk ? or is my head making this up 😕
sorry . im genuinely terrified

If you had it you would have symptoms sometimes the next day or with in 12 day to 15 days. The ameobas like freshwater. Lakes hot springs things like that but could be in wadding pools and what night. Could be in drinking water. But the water we drink is filter and you can't get through drinking the water only through the nose. Of the water in you're home is tainted then yes you have a problem. If you use a netty pot and do not use distilled water then yes you have a problem. If you suspect you're home water is tainted, get it inspected. Between 2003 and 2014 there 35 cases. Its rear. I swam in Lake Michigan in chicago my entire childhood and teen life. I'm fine. I swam in my brothers pool and hot tub still no problem. If you are that worried about it one way to protect yourself. Whenever you're in water where a nose clip. Then you're nose is.pinched together and less likely to get water in it. I think you're working yourself into a frenzy and its causing you a lot of unnecessary anxiety.

its def causing me so much anxiety . i was only in the hot tub two days ago so not "in the clear " if that makes sense" . i dont remember inhalinng anything through the nose but wouldnt little splashed pose the same risk if these parasites are literally microscopic 😦
im seeking professional help this week

Do you have symptoms now? Some people have died with in 48 hours. I think you're good. It is so rear. And some people get.it but it does not activate. It's like cancer cells. People may have cancer cells but they don't activate.

Your health anxiety has now taken over so it want matter what anyone says to you to try and make you think logically, your not nuts just hyper sensitive to anything you see as a threat to your life which is pretty common being as we have the internet to fuel our fears, Dr Google does an amazing job of striking illogical fear into the heart's of thousands of people every day.
You are doing the right thing making an appointment to see your medical practitioner to get this put into perspective, i do think your husband is right though, its easy to pass our obsessions and fears onto our children and then they have to live this life/existence which isnt good for anyone.
Did you ring your water company as i suggested

Update because you guys know how much this is driving me nuts .
Unfortunately my much anticipated appointment for some help resulted in my feeling like an idiot 😞
I spoke to the doctor about my new fear in relation to water , he said he can’t advice on ameobas and to just look up guidelines . I asked if i am at risk if my spa levels were not correct when I went in recently , his answer was well obviously that’s why we have pool and spa chemicals .
His answer to my worries with water was if I’m so worried not to wash in water and to bathe in a bath that I’m not under instead .
I asked him for a mental Health plan which he wrote out but told me he could not advise on counsellors whom work after hours and whom specialise in Cognitive therapy .
I felt like he did not take me seriously at all and I left feeling like an idiot , even more scared of the fact I was in the hot tub with low levels of chlorine and who now has to go home and google some help with therapies to get me by .
I was so looking forward to today and now I just want to cry, i cant believe he said just avoid water if scared . it just fueled my paranoia

You're anxiety is impeding on you're quality of life. If you had it. You would have the symptoms. You would be in the ER. Are you in the US or UK? And If you're doctor acted like that then you need a new doctor. Don't feel like an idiot. You're not an idiot you're doctor is. It may seem stupid to him but it is not to you and that is what matters. I don't think you have it. I think you have really bad anxiety and yes you need to seek help for it but the way you're doctor handled it was not very professional.

Im sorry you didn't get the response you wanted or that you thought you would get, he's right though he's a GP who really hasn't got the background in organisms, i thought you where going to get help dealing with your health phobias which are predominantly your issues.
I dont suppose its worth asking if you contacted your water supplier? to get over this you need to take some control yourself, firstly you could clean out the pool and add the correct chemicals to make it safe for your children, then at least that will be one water source you can except is ok, then do some ringing round to know whats safe in your area.
Then look for maybe a therapist in your area
