These are super small and not to worry about unless you are also in pain.

Is there blood when you wipe? do you have a sharp pain when passing a stool? or any spasms post bowel movement? if so, this indicates you could have an anal fissure which you should speak to your GP about (its nothing to worry about! usually fixed with Diltiazem cream, or surgery as a much later option).

If the skin tags do not cause any pain then its advisable to live with them.

Larger skin tags which swell / bleed / itch can be removed but recovery can be a painful in the short-term.

Small skin tags (like yours) would most likely be considered a cosmetic issue if pain is not present and therefore to have them removed you would need to go private.

    I hope this helps!

very helpful. zero bleeding and no sharp pain but do feel uncomfortable at times by them. I really dont want surgery but the CRS I saw said they were prolapsed internal hemmorroids. but they feel like skin tags, he mentioned surgery and it made me feel he was just surgery happy as I dont feel like these are at a surgery needed point? i really appreciate the reply!

So it sounds like its not the result of an anal

fissure, thank you for confirming there was no blood etc.

It's likely that you have had external haemorrhoids, which have shrunk, and the fleshy skin tag you have left is basically just where that haemorrhoid was. The haemorrhoid popping out has stretched the skin and unfortunately rectum skin once stretched stays stretched.

Any surgery down-there means a bit of a painful recovery (though skin tag removal is nowhere near as painful as if you were to have invasive surgery such as a haemorrhoidectomy).

Due to passing stools, walking and sitting the area is not able to get the total post-surgery rest that other areas of your body can after surgery.

It takes anything from 1 week to 2 months to start really healing depending on size, placement and CRS skills.

If you are not in pain, and not embarrassed or concerned then I would not opt for surgical removal, give them a cute name and forget about them.

If however they itch/swell/rub/get larger I would consider it.

Do not try and remove them at home. The blood vessels and nerve endings will make you instantly regret that decision.

    Hope this helps 😃

thank you so much for all the helpful info! so do you think these look like external remnants? a CRS told me they were prolapsed internal hemorrhoids and I would need a hemorrhoidectomy. but i just feel like he is wrong? ive considered getting a second opinion. they dont hurt but are uncomfortable at times and then the anxiety around them has been bad

If they are tender or feel sore it could be haemorrhoids. Did the CRS offer you any steroid cream? usually surgery for haemorrhoids is the final option.

If you have tried OTC remedies such as Preparation-H, without success then a doctor should be offering a steroid cream. If that doesn't help then surgery is next step.

Definitely get a 2nd opinion if you're unsure. Unfortunately, I cant tell from the pics if its Hems or Tags.

If they are haemorrhoids, when they feel 'tight' or 'full' then a hot bath is recommended and you can gently (very gently, and only if its not too painful) massage the haemorrhoid between the index finger and thumb; this will encourage blood flow and aid healing / shrinkage..

Once out the bath, gently dab the area with witch hazel on a cotton ball; this will cool the area back down and reduce swelling.

Don't do this every day, and stop if the pain worsens.

Take a hand mirror and check for any dark areas on the haemorrhoid, blue areas can indicate a clot, which is when the haemorrhoid is thrombosed. It's not a dangerous clot like can be found within arteries and does not pose any risk of stroke but does mean treatment is required to clear.

Unfortunately, Haemorrhoids and Skin Tags present much of the same symptoms but a CRS should easily be able to determine if they are Hems or Tags when they look.

Haemorrhoids can take a few weeks to clear, whereas skin tags are more like life partners.

      😃
